Yeah sorry if you clicked hoping for a official announcement. But a little fan banter is always fun.

What set/time period do you think would be most successful for a trilogy of high budget blockbusters?

My personal opinion would be judgement, torment and legions.

Urza was too long ago for all the new kiddies I think :(

I wonder if we can get the guy who did this attack on titan fake movie poster to do a MtG one

They already have a book series which i enjoy but a movie on the best planes walker on earth, Jace, Architect of Thought would be a got-to-see

To be honest, I'd love a movie about a beginning planeswalker or about Ravnica, though that would make a better series

As a Writer I believe I could work with something along the line of a series. The only problem with a movie is that it wont be just a movie, It would be at least three. If you made a series you would have to start with Urza, explain the spark, then the Planeswwalking can begin. There are tons of Amazing things you could do with a series, and a good story from each plane... I for one would love to work on this project.

I'm new to the site, just wanted to say hello! And that I agree that a story of a new planeswalker, who is just learning they are one, who eventually is shown the world of MTG would be a great origin story and then branch from there.

I nominate Guillermo Del Toro at the helm, he knows monsters, and he does it with actual care. If anyone's seen Pan's Labyrinth then you know what I mean

I would love for a trilogy based on Zendikar, World Wake, and Rise of the Eldrazi!

Just cause they bought the rights doesnt mean it's being made. Gears of War and Halo movie rights were bough years ago and neither has done squat.

20th Century Fox is hoping for it to be a massive franchise on the scale of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, so I'm certain it won't be a low budget movie. I'm also confident that the lore guys over at WotC will oversee the script writing and card artists may also play their part in making sure everything looks right.

January 15, 2014 2:18 p.m.

@Mazzuno, there's a halo movie on netflix, it sucks though, but i hate halo so i might be biased, the only reason I watched it is because my brother loved it

@bantam1234 that was a short series done by microsoft, not a theatrical movie.

I think zendikar with eldrazi etc would be a good setting/story for a movie, as would be the phyrexian invasion of mirrorin.

I heard the guy who's gonna produce the MTG movie is the one producing X-Men: Days of Future Past. Anyway, I'll just settle for Ravnica as a good movie plot and setting. The origins of the guilds would be very intriguing, most notably Rakdos, who has unknown beginnings.

And it's official from WotC themselves:

"LOS ANGELES, Calif. & PAWTUCKET, R.I. January 14, 2014 -- Twentieth Century Fox and Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) have joined forces to make a series of films based upon Hasbros Wizards of the Coasts fantasy-adventure property, MAGIC: THE GATHERING. Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past), whose Genre Films banner is based on the Fox Lot, will serve as the franchises creative steward and produce in close partnership with Hasbro."

The article mentioned it would be epic, like LoTR epic. I expect to see at least three, if not seven movies.

I saw that Ridley Scott is on board as a writer. He wrote and directed, if I'm not mistaken, the 'Alien' movies as well as the new prequel, 'Prometheus.' I hope this won't be cheesy and disappoints like the 'Avatar: Last Airbender' movie...

Also I wonder who from Wizard's has a hand in it???

January 17, 2014 8:20 p.m.

scarmask says... #24

Read it again, I don't think Ridley Scott is on board.

I got excited when I saw his name there too, but I'm pretty sure it was unrelated.

I'm old-school so anything involving Urza, Mishra, & Phyrexians would be cool.Or maybe a movie about the Weatherlight crew and their adventures.

I believe that heritage is what starts everything so of course alpha beta, the beginning. Answer the question of who we are and why we got here to new players. Give them a taste of how we got to the plane of thero's. Then jump around to the different planes telling the story of magic.

March 11, 2014 6:10 a.m.

pyrotonics says... #29

Also it would be sweet to see Urza and Mishra send us into the ice age to try saving the world before we planes shifted out

March 11, 2014 6:59 p.m.

To allow the director and script writers a bit more creative leeway it could be set in one of the well known blocks but follow the growth and creation of a new planeswalker as he/she joins the world of planeswalkers and all of the politics and epic battles therein.

I'm sure that Jace will be played by Tom Cruise, I mean, look at the duel deck

March 17, 2014 6:26 p.m.

katarhero says... #35

I can only see this going in one of five directions. One is the Urza stories, like the Brother's War and the original Phyrexian conflict. The second is Jace and the Agent of Bolas story with Tezzeret as the villan. Third is the Mirrodin arc. Fourth is the Mending. Fifth is the Maelstrom/Conflux.

March 17, 2014 7:55 p.m.

derKochXXL says... #36

I actually don't see them using settings older than modern. I think it will be about a planeswalker who just discovers his spark, and travels a few planes, that hint a larger universe, but we don't get to fully explore them, until he realizes he has to come back to his home plane to battle the evil something with his new knowledge and his new planeswalker friends (who are known planeswalkers). I would actually like to see the Jace vs. chandra conflict unfolding on Zendikar (I hope I got this right, since I'm not that literate in lore).

I think a good film should be the rise and life of Jon Finkel. A god among mere mortals.

March 18, 2014 6:17 p.m.

draco1430 says... #38

I think that it should be in Scars so that Venser is in it. David Tennant was born to play that part, and the main parts of the story are already there, they just need to fluff it out. The interactions would be really cool, and there would also be Koth, Elspeth, and the possibility of Tezzeret and Karn.
