need some elspeth clarification

so in Theros, Elspeth, Sun's Champion is given Godsend . yet in earlier printings i.e. Elspeth, Knight-Errant and Elspeth Tirel she has that weapon. can someone explain this?

She found it at a younger age while visiting Theros. She's been there before this current occasion. A god dropped it in battle and she took it. She's had the weapon ever since, during her time on Bant and Mirrodin.

But at those times it was more of a long hilted sword vs the spear that Godsend is

Right, then Heliod changed it into a spear and first called it Godsend. Before that the Gods called it the Sword of Chaos.

What these guys said. Elspeth had been on Theros before Theros block took place, if you haven't read the godsend ebooks I recommend doing so, good books.
