gideon could definitely have feinted dying by relaxing and becoming limpid. but thats nissa, jace, and gideon beaten by nixilis. Where's chandra??

Well damn. Ob pushing the envelope on being a baddy.

I really enjoyed this one. I'm liking ob nixilis more every time he's in the story

Kind of hard to be central to the Gatewatch when you're...you know...dead.

At the risk of somebody like Liliana or Chandra showing up, I wish Ob Nixilis had made sure Gideon was like DEAD dead. Gideon is a bully and a prick. The moment he thinks he's more right then you he won't hesitate to break necks and snap spines, essentially killing anyone he doesn't agree with. I believe he calls it "justice". Ha!
Also letting Ob get the Jaw Break in was nice.

I'm sorry, but for some unbeknownst reason, I have a real disliking for Gideon. Don't know why, just always have. So I like that ending.
Though I'm wondering where Chandra is. In the last UR she tried flaming Nixilis. Then she tried flaming Ulamog after he broke free. She couldn't find Gideon or Jace, though she should of seen Nissa and Nissa should have seen her after Ulamog continued his rampage as they both attacked. Where'd she go?
What the hell is Ugin up to? Did he leave?
What about Nahiri? She signaled Ugin and Sorin and as far as she knows they haven't responded. She then went to find Sorin.
Sorin went in search of Ugin on tarkir because of the eldrazi right? Is that because of Nahiri's summons from the Eye of Ugin? Or is it because she found him? Tarkir happened before this part of the story so where is Sorin at this point? Is he with Nahiri? Where are they?
I have so many questions and whereas the stories are cool, they rarely tie in together until there is one UR that ties them. I find that quite annoying.

Meh. Elspeth and Ajani were both far better white walkers than Gideon. I almost hope he's dead for realzies.
Hang on. We'd be down a white walker going into Innistrad. I know in my head it's too soon in the rotation to print another white walker, but AVACYN OR THALIA PLANESWALKER POSSIBLE.
I stand corrected. I hope Mr. Boring is very dead.

i wonder if jace got in ob's mind and made him think he was fighting gideon

To be fair, I really like how Gideon keeps seeming more and more Brutish as far as his combat goes. I really enjoyed his growth and experience leading the allies on the march to Sea Gate. Those were some of the best MTG related short stories I've ever read.
I just thought this UR he seemed especially Smug, which annoys me, in addition to how they made him respond to Jace being attacked. It's like his character development took a 180 this UR and ultimately only served to shorten Ob Nxilis' part of the story.
I guess I was hoping that Gideon was a little more free-thinking. Somebody with enough of a World View to try and reason with Ob Nixilus, whom up to this point, Gideon has had very little interaction with.
Demons in the WotC Universe are usually universally hated and reviled but Ob Nixilis has shown a clever understanding of tactics, restraint, and patience. At this point we are free to speculate that he also has some amount of tolerance* but we'll never know by how Gideon just charged up in there.
To be clear, Jace just charged into Ob's mind recklessly. Gideon in this case is more the aggressor when it comes down to a 1v1 level between Ob Nixilis and Gideon.
I'm not asking Gideon to just do nothing and watch Jace die but Gideon could have talked Ob Nixilis into leaving before it's to late and all of the walkers fell into Kozilek's grasp, or Just grabbed Jace, and had Jace use Teleport or something.

To be fair though Gideon is nearly literally indestructible. Having the flaw of pride is what makes him feel human. Think about it, you've gone your entire adult life knowing your defense can't be broken.
Another thing, think about what happened to gideon the last time he tried to protect himself while his friends were fighting. I'm guessing that incident with erebos left one hell of a scar in his mind

WOW. Three walkers down to Nixilix all in the space of a single UR. Four in two if you count Kiora losing to Kozilek as one for Nixilis, since he summoned him (though I very much doubt any of them are dead). Ob is getting to be more and more interesting a villian every minute.
It's getting really hard to figure out just how the hell Zendikar is going to survive this, outlook is getting worse and worse every story. It really does look like it's going to be Scars of Mirroddin/New Phyrexia bad all over again. I just hope Nissa makes it out okay...

I don't see them killing Nissa off- in the past year alone, they've printed three new Nissa cards (Worldwaker, Flip, and now Voice of Zendikar). I'm not sure they'd do that if they didn't intend to keep her around. Kiora, on the other hand, has gotten just enough attention to remind us she's there, and could be an easy casualty here...
December 31, 2015 3:27 a.m.
I highly doubt Jace, Nissa and Gideon are going to die since the set is called oath of the gatewach and no oath has been sworn yet. We already have a oath of Jace card and art with him on Innistrad.
The only two walkers I could see dying are Ob Nixlus and Kiora and even that is kind of doubtful. Chandra is probably going to come in and at least buy the others time if not force Ob to retreat for now.

Jace probably goofed with Obby's mind and made him think he was fighting Gideon when it was some random nobody lol.
Coinman1863 says... #2
Welp, that happened. I don't think that person died because all of the promo art would have lied to us, as this happens before the oath I think.
Then off the Innistrad!!
