FIGHT!
Assuming Bolas can't (or won't) just Planeswalk away, who would win should one take exception to the other? This does not have to be a straight up fight, that isn't either of their styles, cunning and guile can be considered. Obviously Pre-Mending there would be no question whatsoever, but now?

He does have a whole guild at his disposal where Bolas likes to work alone for the most part, and he took out a couple Nephilim. In terms of power of course Bolas is way ahead, but Niv Mizzet is supposed to be the most intelligent being in the multiverse, if anyone could find Nicol Bolas' weakness I think it would be him.

Nothing short of collaboration with Ugin is likely to put more than a dent in the machinations of Bolas.

Niv-Mizzet doesn't have remotely the same level of intelligence that Bolas has. Bolas has lived for centuries, and gathered a wealth of knowledge from hundreds of different worlds. The only world Niv-Mizzet knows is Ravnica. The entirety of the Izzet guild amounts to only a fraction of Bolas's power and cunning. It would be like if one thousand chess amateurs were told to play against Bobby Fischer. The brainpower and skills just simply aren't there, and Fischer would win every time very easily.

The chess analogy I like. :)
Well I guess that is settled then.

I honestly disagree bolas is far more powerful then niv but niv would be at least as intelligent

May he come quickly, and may we be found worthy!
All hail the god-pharaoh!

There is no question post mending either. Niv Mizzet is roughly 10,000 years younger than Bolas, and though he's intelligent and observant, his knowledge is limited compared to Bolas' as was stated above. He's also not an Elder Dragon, which people fail to realize was more than just a title for Dominarian Dragons, so his magic is vastly inferior.
That's without even bringing up Nicol Bolas' greatest strength: his precaution. He never enters a situation he isn't confident he will win, or at least not lose. If he can't kill Niv Mizzet, he's going to ensure Niv can't kill him.

Spite match. That's like asking who would win between Superman and Hulk. Seems like an even match but Supes is in a whole other class from Hulk.

Nicol Bolas, for the reasons people have stated above.

I disagree with all of you this fight isn't as one sided as people are making it out to be. Sure Nicol Bolas is powerful and wins 9/10 times I can see that 1/10 chance Niv-Mizzet wins simply because he possibly knows ravnica better then anyone and is exceptionally powerful in his own right. Also while I appreciate the chess analogy it doesn't fit Niv Mizze vs bolas because Niv Mizzet and the entirety of the izzet guild thrive on chaos and unpredictability something bolas cannot plan for. In a game of chess everything is predictable simply because you know what the pieces do. Compare that to the izzet where any piece could become a queen at any time. Sure it's not likely but it could still happen.

Bolas thrives because he predicts unpredictable outcomes and has contingencies for them. Its why hes ok with having his plans fail on occasion, he just chalks it up to experience. Again, he may not win because these unlikely outcomes occurred, but he would plan for them enough to not lose.

Honestly i'm not looking for them to fight as i mentioned in another thread it would just be interesting to see them interact. Considering they are both very arrogant highly intelligent vastly powerful (though Bolas is clearly more powerful) extremely old dragons. Considering it was revealed that Ral is working for Bolas now that becomes very possible hell they've probably already interacted at some point. It is fairly clear in most situations Bolas will win a battle though.

Nicol Bolas is one of the oldest living creatures in the multiverse. He was kicking it with Urza and the gang back in the day. He existed before the power of planeswalkers was severely nerfed.
Like, this isn't even worthy of a discussion. Nicol should even be viewed as a dragon. His depiction as a god on Amonkhet is far more accurate to the scale of his power and being in the multiverse.

Funny you bring up him not counting as a dragon, because he barely considers himself a dragon. He muses to himself in the Hour of Devastation story about how his roars, his wingspreading, and even his fire are more him making use of his dragonhood for showmanship than for his personal need as a dragon. He sees himself as nothing but a Planeswalker now, and believes he deserves to be a God (again).

I CRUSH PINGDRAGON EASILY, AND ANGRY ME CRUSHES SLIGHTLY BIGGER PINGDRAGON TOO.
ME VS. BOLAS WOULD BE A TOUGH FIGHT. NEVER SEEN HIM THOUGH, SO HE'S PROLLY SCARED. HE COULD TOTALLY CRUSH NIV' THOUGH, IF HE WANTED TO.

honestly Bolas will just make Niv one of his minions, if he hasn't already. convince him that they are "working together" when really Bolas is just coercing him to do whatever he wants, so in reality while Bolas could pwn him, he'd rather just use him.

Still just Bolas. As much as I love Niv-Mizzet, neither his mind nor his body are capable of taking on an ancient Elder Dragon.
