So, turns out Lorwyn elves are a bunch of meanies. Also, the knot showed her Eldrazi, right? If not, what do you think it showed her.

"Nothing too exciting"? I beg to differ. I was absolutely riveted the entire way through. Excellent work to the writers.

Shadowmoor's voice was creepy. Can you imagine it talking to you like that? shiver Worthy of note is that this story took place at the same time as the events that occurred during Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block.
ALso, why did Wizards choose Dwynen to be the legendary creature? It should've been Nissa's friend.

I actually felt that this story was really... underwhelming. Compared to the origin stories before this one, I wasn't as invested.

I agree, underwhelming compared to the others. Still good though.
What I didn't like was how Nissa is being protrayed as always being an animist and able to control lands when wasn't she originally just elf-centric? And now they're almost glorifying her with the confrontation with the Lorwyn elves when old Nissa would have reveled in the elves' dominance.

Well that was boring. I thought Nissa was like an Elf Nazi or something? Is Wizards just rewriting characters for the sake of it now?

Same. I thought being on Lorwyn with the imperialist elves would help her develop into Elf Nazi Nissa.

I'm not really that underwhelmed with Nissa's origin story. Rather tjan retconning her story, I do think that they left out a lot of information. If this took place during Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block, then there is a lot of time between them and now to account for that they perhaps just didn't touch on.
My idea is, Nissa's Elf-Nazi behavior stemmed from her encounter with Dwynen. Upon returning to Zendikar, she rallied her tribe and aspired to be better than the "elves" she had encountered on Lorwyn, etc, etc..
I dunno, seems like there are a lot of details that we didn't get to hear about in this UR.

One would think that if she was going to be an Elf fascist, that she's hate the Lorwyn elves more than anything else. They're unpure elves by her standards, surely.. Horns and hooves? That's not the Elves she knows.

It's safe to assume that, starting next week, we'll get a second UR on Chandra, Liliana, etc. that will tie up the loose ends.

@Phaetion I certainly hope so, these stories all left something to be desired. And all the retconning has been annoying.
All in all:
Chandra is now an only child, didn't start the fire that killed her parents, and her family wasn't killed by a nation with the same motto as the Order of Heliud. Also we totally needed another artifice based world, right? It's not like Fiora was just introduced or anything...
Alhammarret went from being an old guy to being a sphinx; Jace's father was not privy to the fact he was a planeswalker; and Jace seemed to be WAY more proficient at mind magic than he was at the start of Agent's of Artifice. (They could still smooth these things out by saying that Jace just doesn't remember his tutor was a sphinx due to the damage to his mind. It would also kind of explain why Tezzeret had to train him to do all the stuff he seemed to be able to do already in this origin story, as most of his training could have been wiped out as well.)
Liliana was not kicked out by her family for turning her brother into a zombie. This was minor detail though, I didn't really mind.
Hixus said nothing about his mentor being a planeswalker and recognizing Kytheon as one (Although now there seems to be some captioned photo that supports this? I'm not sure...). Also Gideon did not first planeswalk by killing someone he shouldn't have been able to kill. However he may have been lying about this to Chandra in The Purifying Fire because he was ashamed at causing his friends' death. Unlike Chandra, he did not walk through a pure white mana source that verified his story.
Nissa is not so elf-Nazi-ish, although she still probably hates vampires. Also she did not train with the elves of Lorwyn, she merely had an encounter with them. And the last uncharted realms we saw Nissa in made it look like the first time she summoned elementals was after the Eldrazi's release, which does not seem to be the case here. (There might be more changes here, I haven't read In the Teeth of Akoum, so I'm not totally familiar with Nissa's lore.)
From what I know of L/S the voice of Shadowmoor that Nissa heard was probably the voice of Oona, Queen of the Fae. And this story could have been a while ago, remember that elves in MTG lore typically have longer life spans than other humanoid creatures. There could easily be 50 years between this story and the events of In the Teeth of Akoum.
On another note, this has kind of got me wanting to read the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor stories. Does anyone know if I could find them online somewhere?

Nothing too exciting or new in this UR, other than the idea that Nissa is a VERY new or recent PW.
