"No," said Sorin. "She lives."

Today's Uncharted realms article is fairly interesting. Link

I wanted to draw attention to a specific quote...

"No," said Sorin. "She lives." The fuller extent of the truth was not something Ugin needed to know at this time, in Sorin's estimation. "I think I may know where she might be."

"Then fetch her to Zendikar. If the titans remain there, we'll need her to rebuild the hedron network."

It appears that Ugin knows that Nahiri is needed to stop the Eldrazi on Zendikar. Ugin also seems to respond fairly rudely to Sorin, maybe hinting at a past argument?

Thoughts?

GoldGhost012 says... #1

She's not. If she was, she would have done something about the whole Eye of Ugin fiasco and Sorin would have had her instead of Nissa with him on the journey to the central hedron. She's currently elsewhere.

Yeah, fair point.

Ugin and Nahiri spent a millenia banging each other in the hedron prison that ugin was in, and sorin was jealous

Psyloarchy says... #4

My theory is that Sorin, and Nahiri got into a situation that left Nahiri stranded on 'some plane not Zendikar, or tarkir', and it was Sorin's fault. And as personal preference, I believe that Ugin would rather bang Dragonlord Atarka.

MarduGras says... #5

Really Psyloarchy? I think he would prefer Dragonlord Ojutai. She's probably really flexible.

MAGESTIC_LLAMA says... #6

@MarduGras

No way man, Dragonlord Silumgar all the way.

April 1, 2015 10:49 a.m.

Ok unless ugin is a microsophalic or nehiri has a vagina designed by the same people that made the t.a.r.d.I.s. I don't think don't think anything happened between them

April 1, 2015 11:28 a.m.

Psyloarchy says... #8

MarduGras, Ojutai is male

April 1, 2015 7:39 p.m.

MarduGras says... #9

Psyloarchy Well maybe Ugin is gay/bi, you don't know. Just because you may be straight does not mean that everyone is. Even spirit dragons can have different sexual orientations.

April 1, 2015 7:52 p.m.

Psyloarchy says... #10

I'm not being homophobic, I'm pointing out a mistake you made (thinking Ojutai is female). If I thought that Ugin should only have sex romps with lady dragons, I would have responded to MAGESTIC_LLAMA too. Also, I really don't want to turn this thread into a flamewar.

I'd ship dat Ujutai tho

I ship them too Kroto

MarduGras says... #13

Psyloarchy I actually meant to thank you for correcting me last night but I forgot. I know you weren't being trying to be homophobic I was just pointing out that we don't actually know what Ugin's sectual preference is. In my honest opinion I think Ugin is probably asexual.

April 2, 2015 6:27 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #14

@MarduGras But he can't be asexual, didn't you just smell the sexual tension when he met up with Nico Bolas?

April 2, 2015 8:24 a.m.

MarduGras says... #15

lemmingllama maybe Nicol Bolas came back to get revenge on Ugin for breaking up with him and Ugin was gay all along.

You could start an armada with all the ships in this thread.

But seriously though, has no else seen the "Nahiri is Avacyn, #MindfuckZendikar" theory that's been going around?

  • Same hair color
  • Same skin color
  • Same eyeliner
  • Same hair parting
  • Sorin knows where she is
  • Knows she's alive
  • Knows she's not on Zendilkar
  • Would prefer not to bring her to Zendikar
  • Feels that the situation may be (slightly) his fault

Anublet90 says... #17

I actually saw that theory about an hour ago. Now I'm not usually one for fan-fics and epileptic trees, but this one really clicked with me.

April 4, 2015 10:02 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #18

Haven't seen that theory, but... WTF. It's an interesting one, but it doesn't seem logical to me. Avacyn and Nahiri really don't look that alike to me.

Though I have always wondered how Sorin was able to create life.

My friends and I have come to the agreement that even if it's not true, it'll be way cooler than whatever Wizards actually comes up with.

Named_Tawyny says... #21

Ugin is a Tarkir dragon. All dragons on Tarkir reproduce asexually. It's not that much of a stretch to imagine that Ugin is asexual. (Do we know for a fact that Ugin is even male? Is that cannon?)

April 4, 2015 5:06 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #22

All the dragons have genders, even if they do produce asexually.

That said, if they were all born from the dragon tempests, how was Ugin born?

April 4, 2015 5:43 p.m.

JakeHarlow says... #23

Maybe Ugin is a god-like entity. Progenitus-esque, just more sentient?

April 4, 2015 7:31 p.m.

lemmingllama says... #24

I believe Ugin was an elder dragon, which is why he has a similar power level to Bolas. Also I believe he was the reason why the dragon tempests exist, so maybe he had some fun times and all the dragons from the dragon tempests are the 1000+ years of results.

April 4, 2015 10:26 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #25

There are so many reasons why I want to say that Ugin is not an Elder Dragon like Bolas, but unfortunately for me there's only 3 good pieces of evidence:

  1. Ugin originated on Tarkir and not Dominaria like the rest of the Elder Dragons.

  2. Elder Dragons weren't inherently Planeswalkers and thus could not move around planes. So since Bolas was the only know walker Elder Dragon, there was no way to deposit an Elder Dragon egg or whatever on Tarkir.

  3. Bolas has stated that he is the only surviving Elder Dragon after the Elder Dragon War. Which may or may not be true, it's shrouded in retcons and abandoned storylines.

April 5, 2015 1:11 a.m.

sonnet666 says... #26

There are ton of recons to the whole "Elder Dragon" thing, and the only thing that's really clear is that Bolas is the last surviving Elder Dragon of Dominaria. Nothing says that an ancient dragon (i.e. Elder) from another plane can't match him in age, power, whatever...

Basically Wizards has a tendency to forget their established canon faster than billionaires forget their ex-wives...

April 5, 2015 1:28 a.m.

Named_Tawyny says... #27

GoldGhost012 Keep in mind, that we now have at least 10 confirmed Elder Dragons. Aside from the Dominaria ones, we have the new Tarkir Elder Dragons.

This doesn't mean that Ugin is or isn't an Elder Dragon, but it certainly makes it more plausible than before.

April 5, 2015 7:13 a.m.

sonnet666 says... #28

@Named_Tawyny, I think it just means that Wizards stopped paying to what "Elder Dragon" is supposed to mean. At this point they're just using it to denote "old dragon."

April 5, 2015 2:58 p.m.

MarduGras says... #29

GoldGhost012 I'm pretty sure the elder dragons were not from Dominaria. I think their home plane was destroyed during the war of the elder dragons. I thought I read an article about it but I'm having trouble finding it. The elder dragons, like the eldrazi, could planeswalk but weren't actually considered planeswalkers. The only difference between Bolas and the others was that he was more powerful I think.

My theory is that Ugin was at some point an elder dragon but was killed and just before death ignited his spark and became a planeswalking spirit dragon.

Then again I couldn't find the article so this could all be wrong.

April 5, 2015 3:16 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #30

Mmm, it seems I've misread Dominaria with Dominia, the old name for the Multiverse. So they could planeswalk, but they weren't quite the god-like figures Planeswalkers were. I was mistaken about that. Jury's still out in whether Ugin is actually an Elder Dragon as well. Very interesting.

Elder Dragon info

Regardless, sonnet666 accurately summed up why I don't like the new Elder Dragon connotation.

April 5, 2015 3:26 p.m.

sonnet666 says... #31

I'm pretty sure the Elder Dragon story was made back in the pre-revisionist continuity when people could still train to be a planeswalker, so there's that...

April 5, 2015 5:44 p.m.

MarduGras says... #32

GoldGhost012 thank you for finding that article it was driving crazy. Well tbh I didn't look that hard but.... Anyways I was reading over the article and discovered that there was another elder/lesser elder dragon who survived the war of the elder dragons. Piru was the colourless elder dragon. This would mean that Ugin could be a close relative to the dragon. This could be the reason that Ugin is so powerful and why some people call Ugin an elder dragon.

"Then fetch her to Zendikar."

I see what you did there, Wizzards.

April 6, 2015 6:02 a.m.

No one I've talked to likes the avacyn is nehiri idea, I think it's as plausible as any but if she doesn't have any memories and she is necessary I don't know where the story would go from there. My favorite nonsense theory is that she left sorin for lilianna buy that's totally not going to happen

April 8, 2015 1:03 a.m.

Anublet90 says... #35

Don't know where to go from there? As I see it, sets and blocks have a tendency to end on a very bitter note, and sacrificing Innistrad (at least for now) for the Greater Good (the Greater Good (the Multiverse)) fits rather snugly into that trend.

April 8, 2015 12:09 p.m.

But ugin believes the only way too stop them is with nehiri help if she can't help I don't see why they would lore them there also we know the fight is on zendacar

April 8, 2015 1:33 p.m.

Pedrodamus says... #37

Amazing article!! Can't wait to see how this story pans out. Idk about Nahiri being Avacyn, that's a little out there. I'm kind of bummed about the new format that blocks will only have two sets because now that means we only get 2 sets for our revist to Zendikar :(
