How does one become a Planeswalker?
I have already read some lore on what it is like and how they planeswalk but I can't find anything on becoming one.
Seems legit...
In any case, to planeswalk you have to have a "spark", which comes randomly when you are born, or can be given/created. Once you have that spark it ignites at some point, normally during some traumatic or awesome experience. If your spark ignites, you can then planeswalk.

To elaborate further, there are only a few instances in which a spark has been given, much less created. To my knowledge the only time a spark has come close to being created was with Yawgmoth performing research on Dyfed. It's my understanding that Yawgmoth was incredibly close to creating a spark, but wasn't quite able to because Dyfed was killed before he finished his research.
Sparks have been given in two cases to my knowledge, from Urza to Karn when Urza died and from the one goblin planeswalker to another character to save her life, whose names escape me.
Tldr: A planeswalker is almost always simply born with their spark, it can be different under very limited circumstances.

I believe Veneser also gave his spark to Karn to save his life. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Is all this explained further in the books? I need to read them.

You can read the Origin stories of the new-age walkers, they portrait how each of their spark ignites.

KingTorg1, you are correct. As far as a I know, the basic story of Karn is:
The novels are definitely decent reads for the most part if you are into that. I prefer the Ice Age cycle of novels, personally. You can also get a lot of them pretty cheap on Amazon.
Also worth pointing out is that there are several known entities/methods that have achieved interplanar travel that are not "Planeswalking" per se. The Eldrazi, Marit Lage, the Phyrexians, even pre-ignited Venser were all capable of interplanar travel that did not require sparks.
Anyone feel free to jump in and correct or expound on any of this.

After the Mending (when they dialed back the planeswalkers' power) basically every form of not-quite planewalking stopped working. Only one instance of a non-planeswalker going to a different plane has happened. (A Kami from Kamigawa traveled to I think Alara where Nicol Bolas killed it).

You have to sacrifice kittens and puppies to Lord Bolas on the 1st night of a full moon covered in the blood of your most hated enemy. The blade used to kill your enemy and slit the throats of your sacrificial puppies and kittens must be made from the femur of your most trusted friend. There are 13 kittens and seven puppies for the sacrifice.
