It's pretty common knowledge that Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker captured and interrogated Ugin about the Eye of Ugin and sent Sarkhan Vol to guard it. To make a long story short, this resulted in the Eldrazi being awoken once more. In fact, Bolas planned on it. But why? Why reawaken titanic monsters that could tear apart the Multiverse?
My guess is that it was a distraction. Whatever Bolas has planned next, he wants it to happen without interference from his fellow Planeswalkers, not like what happened on Alara. So while all the other puny walkers team up to defeat the Eldrazi, Bolas can quietly continue his work. And I'm guessing that it will be an Alara-scale type of plan, if not bigger. And if it succeeds, then he may be on the same power level as pre-Mending Bolas.
A walker with pre-Mending power in the post-Mending Multiverse. I'll just let that sink in...
you learn a lot about him in the books agents of artifice and its sequel test of metal. its hard to tell what his up to, his 25,000 years old with pretty much unlimited power, if he wanted to take over and rule the multiverse i feel like he wouldve already

He's much, much more limited post-Mending. What he lost from it (immortality and endless stores of power and knowledge) made him mad as he'll, so now he's trying to up his power and get as much of it back as he can.

Yeah, he's basically trying to regain his godly pre-Mending status. That's all he cares about.

What are some good primers on Bolas?
I've been so into magic and the cards I missed out on alot of the plot lines.
