Okay, so the article's title is actually "Sacrifice," but...
Introducing the Gitrog Monster!

Holy shit. This thing is literally the Hypnotoad.
And I was rooting for the Mia x Wilbur OTP the whole time. That's what I get for reading a story of a set based on Gothic and Lovecraftian horror.

well then.
gotta say, a giant frog to me doesnt seem all that intimidating, especially going by the art of the card. someone needs to kill this thing, where's Garruk when you need him?

Descend Upon the Fishermen reconfirmed.
Also, I was definitely expecting some romance between Mia and Wilbur, absolutely not what happened at all. I really liked the ending, it did a good horror 'to be continued' sort of thing.

This was definitely an excellent story, and the atmosphere of horror was very nicely done; it was too easy to predict that the Gitrog would prove to be real despite Mia's doubts, but I did not expect her to change her attitude toward it; does the Gitrog have some dark power to make people worship it?
I, also, expected there to be romance between Mia and Wil, and I did not expect Mia to kill Wil and feed him to the Gitrog. While this story is likely a one-shot, it left numerous unanswered questions: why did Mia's father leave the village? Why did Klaim dislike him? Is the Gitrog related to everything else that is happening on Innistrad (i.e., Avacyn going mad and Nahiri being present)? I do hope that the events of this story are revisited, later in the block.

Mia should have been all like "Stick to the pond, froggy."

DemonDragonJ obviously it has an ability to control lesser minds. i doubt it could mind control a planeswalker though.
speaking of which, the card abilities don't line up with the story that well. seems like you should be saccing your creatures instead of your lands, and maybe it should have a limited mind control ability too. like it should've been either Sultai colors or just U/G.

Would it not have been much more dramatic to reveal the card at the end of the story, rather than at the beginning of it?

I think this is the first UR that actually has really good written combat scenes. Well written, one of the best I've read. Makes me theorize about the extension of the story with her father.

Femme_Fatale, the first one on Tarkir with Sorin had a well written combat scene too.

Second post because I just finished the story...and it is simply amazing.
Everything read up until the ending really added to the horror of it all. It in a way, felt lovecraftian but without the cosmic beings.

So...THIS is the source of Innistrad's shenanigans? I mean, being right under the monster made Mia go mad. And considering the Toad's synergy with Drownyard Temple...
There must be a connection between the Gitrog, the cryptoliths/Nahiri, and the Moon. There's no doubting it now.
