Wedge shard flavor

I was just wondering whats everyone's take on the flavour of the enemy wedge colors?

It's seems to be a lot less straightforward figuring the enemy wedges out than the allied colors.. But here's what I came up with:

UWR: the colors of progress. Going by the flavor of the Ravnica guilds colors, I could picture a plane with an ordered society dominated by scientific and technological progress. Might be steampunkish, with lots of artifact involvement. Kind of puts me in mind of Victorian Britain or US at the same time (and those colors also happen to be on their flags)

BUG: a plane controlled by rogue necromancers/biomancers using scientific knowledge to manipulate organisms in various states of life/unlife/ death to maintain control. Evolution gone awry. Cyborgs maybe?

BWR: reminds me of a plane close to what life actual was like in the real world during the Roman Times -Dark Ages at certain points. Continuous warfare (WR) , competing monarchies, religious factions (BW) , and Barbarians at the gates (RB).

GBW: I'm not sure about this one. I could imagine a semi-primitive realm in a cold northern climate, unforgiving land, with lots of forests, grasslands, and swamps, dominated old superstitious traditions (BW) Close to nature, venerating the cycles of life and death (GB). Close-knit society based on clannish structure. Puts me in mind of 'The North' in GoT. Witches - Shakespearean Scotland perhaps

RUG: Puts me in mind of something as close as it gets to being Utopian. A plane that lives in harmony with the natural elements. Maybe dominated by by reason, new age ideas, balanced approach to nature, values freedom and individuality, intuition and passion, but also seeks to improve on itself. Free thinking. 'Hippy' plane I guess.

Well that's what I could come up with . I'd love to hear your thoughts...

RUG is often associated with primal forces in my mind (think water and wind for blue, fire and earth for red and I don't need to explain green), so I imagine a aether-heavy chaotic landscape, with shifting, crackling forests, vicious thunderstorms and hurricane wind, where only the toughest survive.

I would have to agree with pookypuppy6. I just don't really see RUG as very utopian. In Ravnica, Izzet, Gruul and Simic all seem pretty chaotic. But all the others seem good.

Makes sense. RUG does seem chaotic on second thought. In my deck building, I always seem to struggle making a viable RUG deck. GR, UR, and UG are all fine to themselves, but RUG colors never seem go well together even compared to the other wedge colors for some reason.

These are pretty good. I like where you're going with this.

RUG seems to be home to some of the weird scientific (Izzet, Simic) that deals with ritualistic (Gruul) beasts (fits a little with Simic). In my mind, RUG is home to some of the most convoluted and fun infinite combos, but that might just be my interpretation based on my decks

To me its not wedge dominated planes since planes dont work like that (notice how alara was), a single color or combination of colors cant hold dominian over an entire plane since aspects of each color are everywhere, color combinations dominate citys and locations, like the nivix is dominated by UR, meletis is dominated by UW, and a volcano would be dominated by red.

But I digress.

To me BUG represents a UB dominated city with naive and for the most part dumb (G) citizens.

RWB is like a band of freedom fighters and anarchists, those who fight for the greater good (W) using less than moral methods (RB).

GUR has scientists and experimenters (U) who don't care about politics and morals (GU) as long as they're free to do as they please (GR).

WBG is like a false church (WB) that use religion (GW) as a means to control the followers while keeping them in line.

And URW is a "perfect" society in which the ruler makes laws (UW) that ensure justice (WR) and freedom (R).

I like some of the ideas here for wedge colors.

BUG strikes me as more of the crazy scientist than RUG does (The Mimeoplasm ). A dark Simic society experimenting on creatures to make abominations or more Frankensteinish creatures. Monsters, horrors, and things of the like.

RUG: I like the harsh terrain ideas. A Shard that has very cruel conditions and is home to mages that use devastating magic.

RWB: Along the lines of the Dragon/Demon/Angel thing, it seems more like an underworld-like shard. The most Evil or cruel shard. There is no good alignment here.

GWB: I see this as a more desolate environment. A shard where there is low vegetation and covered with tar pits, desert, and bones. A good graveyard/reanimation theme all around.

RWU: CW's idea works well for it. An Azorius-like society, but maybe with stricter enforcement for the Red colors. Very high standards for justice.

WRB : VIKINGS! Its all about war, but there are enough laws to the warfare to keep it in check. Think of the Immersturm on Warstorm Surge .

BUG: Reduce (your opponents to slobbering zombies), Reuse (Everything, even your dead mother), Recycle (cards, mana, creatures, +1/+1 counters....)

BWR: Ummm.... War? Lots and lots of war, definitely. With Angels and Demons and Dragons and Archons. Basically a Khaalia the Vast Paradise.

GBW: Religion World! There are Death Shamans, evil hierarchies, and Brotherly Love. Not to mention huge creatures and mana.

RUG: Gigantic creatures aside, this could be a world of almost completely elemental based magic (think The Last Airbender). Blue has water and air, Red has Fire and Earth and green has, well, Trees.

How I perceive the enemy wedge colours:

UWR: This to me screams dictatorship. You follow orders and if you don't you get burnt - literally. They have a single ruler who rules with an Iron Fist and a powerful army. The armies are well coordinated and will often try to flank the opponent in numbers (lots of little flying, can't be blocked or some other flank mechanic dudes)

BUG: A Leper colony gone extreme. They like to toy with everything that will let them achieve their goals - overthrowing civilisation. Everything from nature tothe dead become their weapons. The dabble in dark magics such as necromancy and dark Biomancy such as plague manifestation and mutation.

BWR: Chaos in it's purist form. A primitive culture where the strongest survive and the weak die by blades or axes to the face. Their actions are sometimes seen as suicidal but the strongest have the ability to heal themselves. While primitive they are not stupid, as often the smartest in a battle will overcome a weaker opponent. These guys are all about single power of their pack, usually only keeping a hand full of others around themselves. Occasionally packs meet in Peace but very rarely. Each pack has an Alpha and that's as far loyalty and order goes. Until somebody kills the current Alpha and takes their place they follow the strongest.

GBW: I'm also of the mind this will be like a giant false religion/cult. Pure in appearance, cruel and twisted in secret. The masses are stupid and the leaders cunning. The Leaders never enter into combat themselves and instead they bless the masses with powers, often these blesses have long term side-effects. (Think creatures get +3/+3 but each upkeep you put a -1/-1 counter on each creature you control)

RUG: These are the people live in the worst conditions and have adapted and evolved naturally and unnaturally to the environment. They're highly intelligent and fight together. they always leave more than one path open to them. Versatility amongst the mighty storms of the planes worst is a necessity. There is no fighting amongst ranks but no leader either. The most respected of their culture are the teachers, who teach the children knowledge and power to survive. They don't fight the elements but move with them.

BUG seems to be a place of anarchy, rotting and crime, with corrupted knowledge, kinda like a cross between golgari and dimir.RUG seems like a place with little civilisation, where beasts roam around with little to no laws.RBW seems like total chaos. Black and white are naturally opposed to each other and red is opposed to peace, so they'll all get along in endless war :)UWR seems like a modern utopia. You've got white taking the role of the law, and blue and red progressing technology, kinda like the izzet.GBW would be a world where there would be lots of chaos and rotting. Again, black and white don't get along, and green and black together give a sense of rotting and funguses which devour all dead matter.
