What happened to Neheb?

Neheb, the Worthy

When this set was spoiled, the card I was most excited to learn more about was Neheb. My first ever deck was a minotaur deck, and thus I have quite an affection towards that tribe. When I saw the minotaurs of Amonkhet, I was overjoyed. I couldn't wait to learn more about them, and more about Neheb.

But after diligently reading every story article about the block so far, I have seen no mention of Neheb. I'm pretty sure every legendary of Amonkhet has had at least a paragraph in the story, yet Neheb seems to be missing. Am I mistaken? Thoughts?

Crayfish,
We have a paragraph about him on the Amonkhet Plane page:

Neheb is a highly accomplished initiate who has earned four cartouches and thus a place in the House of Hazoret. He inspires both fear and respect in all who see him fight. He is a talented charioteer, and his favored weapon is a spear, which he wreathes in magical flame before battle.

And a quote from him on Magma Spray.

But I think that's all we've got. So far, anyways.

Tagging Argy ... if anyone would know more about Neheb, it's her.

TMBRLZ,
If you haven't already, you might want to check out ColFrogfoot's brew: Minotaurs Dealing 29 Damage on Turn 3?

I thought somebody called attention to some card art that suggested Neheb died a Glorious End just a little while ago.

tbh there are only little bits and pieces about Neheb, that you have all already mentioned.

It's a real shame for the best Minotaur that has ever been printed not to get some more story love.

I don't know. Those spikes seem pretty darn fond of him.

You think that's not doing too hot?

Doesn't get much hotter than having the biggest arse on a Minotaur that I've ever seen!

Seems cool but slightly unplayable at the same time. He can't replace OG Neheb for EDH because then you're cutting out an entire color of the tribe, which they did on purpose to compensate for the badass ability. I could see him maybe being top of curve as a 1 or 2 of in Standard for maybe some kind of midrange... but other than that... seems super meh.

At least we know that his End was truly Glorious.

He'll be a four of in my Standard Minotaur deck.

MAYBE a three of.

Definitely NOT a two of.

I mean, I want a badass metal-encased minoman with a firespear for EDH. I'll probably build around him.

I think Neheb, the Worthy is a better Commander.

You get that extra colour and First Strike.

So ee had Neheb, the Worthy in Amonkhet, and now we've seen Mirage Mirror, which looked like it showed Neheb looking into the mirror to see himself as an eternal (Which gave me the idea that Neheb would be among those fighting for Amonkhet's survival). But then we get Neheb, the Eternal, which is very clearly our friend Neheb as a badass eternal. But then where and when did Neheb die? Assuming the cards in HoD canonically take place once the hours have begun, how is it possible for him to have gazed into the mirror, seen himself as an eternal, and still end up as one? Especially if the Scarab God and the Eternals all have left their crypt to go obliterate the city.

On his official description, it says he has "earned a place in the house of Hazoret", implying he was on his way to do the trial of zeal. Either:
1) Neheb met his end during the trial, as shown in Glorious End. That would not, however, mark him as worthy by Hazoret as he did not survive the trial. 2) Neheb was victorious in the trial of zeal, and both Glorious End and Mirage Mirror depict different (albeit similar looking) minotaurs.
3) The eternals/the Scarab God have some express way of making eternals outside the crypt (which seems unlikely)

Any thoughts?

Couldn't Neheb have been declared worthy by completing some of the other trials?

Then he died during Hazoret's trial, is buried in the desert, and returns in his eternal state.

Seeing himself Eternalised in the mirror happens before the Trial of Zeal, foreshadowing would happen to him.

Glorious End

Let's pay attention to the name of the card for a second.

Now let's take a look at the flavor on Neheb, the Eternal.

Neheb proved himself capable, unfortunately got skewered, and then Nicol recognized his potential and asked him to join the party.

I think we're letting this silly EDH and Legacy card corrupt the thoughts too much.

I just finished reading the booklet that come with the bundle.

It says that, if you complete all the trials, Hazoret the Pervert grants you a "Glorious End" by killing you.

Then the citizens THINK that you go out through the city gates to live eternally with the God-Pharaoh.

However what REALLY happens is that Nicol Bolas uses the Cartouches you earnt in the trials to reanimate you, and then you become a Zombie warrior that fights for him, upon his return to the Amonkhet plane.

MindAblaze says... #21

But the card Glorious End doesn't show you what happens at the end of the Trial of Zeal. The card that shows that is Deem Worthy, so unless that's not Neheb in the art for Glorious End someone chose him for other reasons.

Argy says... #22

The other question is who the second person is on Glorious End.

I dunno. I'm no good at this lore stuff.

So Neheb, the Worthy went through Nicol Bolas's zombie bedazzler? I like the card. He works well with Heartless Hidetsugu.

Actually Neheb pre eternal does have a small smattering of lore not on the cards. in the now abandoned Magic duels game the amonkhet story block actually has you playing as Neheb as he goes through all 5 trials and meets his end at Hazorets' spear.
