What Plane Would You Live on?

Here's a question I'm sure many of you have considered: If you had to live in a plane from MtG, which would you pick?

Would you pick somewhere comparatively "safe" like Kaladesh or Ravnica? Or would you seek adventure on Zendikar or Ixalan? Or are you a masochist who'd go to Innistrad or New Phyrexia and suffer? Or would you go to one of Magic's many other planes?

MWorl91 says... #2

I'd go to Tarkir, and learn how to ride a Phoenix with the Jeskai.

Chaosking13 says... #3

Kamigawa to learn from the fox clans, or tarkir to fight alongside dragons

Zendikar, before Eldrazi ate the plane. I have always liked Elfs and Merfolks and Zendikars theme at all.

Not gonna lie, MWorl91, that's pretty freakin metal.

Sabels says... #6

I'd choose Ixalan because I like that plane's Vampires. Zendikar before the Eldrazi destroyed it is a close second.

Knowing my luck i'd have already died when the Sliver Hive was destroyed on Rath. But I believe the home realm of the Slivers has yet to be named. I'd totally live there.

Titilanious says... #8

Well my initial thought would be Dominaria just because it is cool and alot of neat characters are there but that would probs be a bad idea, most-likely would be Kalidesh because it was one of the most advanced planes and rather safe.

Icbrgr says... #9

Rath.... for the pursuit of the perfectly engineered Sliver.... Volraths Metallic Sliver can be improved....

windlnk says... #10

It was originally Zendikar but now I think I would want to be on Ixalan to ride dinosaurs.

September 21, 2017 12:30 p.m.

ERoss8 says... #11

I'd hang out in the mountains of Tarkir with the Temur/Atarka tribe (either timeline), with a summer home in pre-eldrazi Zendikar

September 21, 2017 12:48 p.m.

vbfabled says... #12

I would say Kaladesh, because technology and whatnot, by I'm too American for them Commies. Ravnica has entirely too many people on it, so unless I could get myself a secluded Selesnya place, I don't know about that. Other than that, I think Zendikar would be cool to run around and explore. Either that or pre-Phyrexian Mirrodin.

September 21, 2017 12:58 p.m.

Sulk says... #13

Well Zendikar is cool, but Ixalan is the only plane that really does it for me

SteelSentry says... #14

LVL_666 The new slivers are on Shandalar, which was actually the plane I was considering.

I'm a sucker for "normal" fantasy worlds, so I would probably go with Dominaria, although Ravnica is tempting.

September 21, 2017 2:48 p.m.

greyninja says... #15

This is a cool idea!

My initial thoughts would be Tarkir with the Temur tribe, or Ixalan with the dinosaurs.

Ultimately I'll have to land on my boy Animar, Soul of Elements unknown plane.

"In the folklore of its plane, the Animar is the ultimate source of all life; the seed from which all creation grows. In the presence of Animar, crops blossom and herds thrive, and the wake of its wanderings determines the course of the seasons."

September 21, 2017 2:57 p.m.

Mortlocke says... #16

SteelSentry so the new slivers are on Shandalar, but there are Slivers on Dominaria as well. According to Future Sight, they survive very far into the future of Dominaria as well. So...I guess i'll go with Dominaria, as my kind will flourish! (chitinous speech ensues!!!) Thanks for pointing Shandalar out, Sentry.

Innistrad, pre-Eldrazi.

Easily my favorite plane with my favorite sets. Not exactly a safe place to live, but what an adventure.

September 21, 2017 6:32 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #18

If I HAD to pick one, definitely a relatively safe one like i guess Kaladesh (as long as I'm not illegally inventing stuff or otherwise pissing the Consulate off), and then i could always get someone to build another Planar Bridge or something if i felt like going on an adventure on a more dangerous plane.

Innistrad is my favorite plane flavorwise, but screw living there as a human. Only if i were a vampire or werewolf would i live there.

September 21, 2017 8:32 p.m.

Fair enough shinobigarth, but if I were say, a Planeswalker that had to pick a plane to call home, or was a vampire or some such, it'd definitely be Innistrad. If I had to live there as IRL Me, a place like Ravnica would probably be a better choice.

September 21, 2017 9:48 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #20

Tyrant-Thanatos yeah same. I was going by if i was IRL me.

If i were a vamp or a planeswalker then I wouldn't be too worried.

OR i would be fine living as IRL me on Innistrad if it were long before the Innistrad block, back while Avacyn was alive and at her full monster-butt-kicking power levels.

September 21, 2017 10:18 p.m.

Mortlocke says... #21

shinobigarth I read somewhere in magic lore that all of us players are technically planeswalkers. So if we were to visit any of these realms, well i'd imagine we'd have our spark. So it'd make sense if we were going by our magic "personas" if you will.

September 21, 2017 10:30 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #22

Yes for the purposes of playing the game, players are considered planeswalkers FLAVOR-WISE (not as far as things that care about the planeswalker card type).

I interpreted the OP as us ourselves, not as a planeswalker. But feel free to interpret it as you will since vbfabled didn't specify.

September 21, 2017 10:49 p.m.

Gleeock says... #23

Yep, players were the original planeswalkers... Kindof got jacked up when they brought walkers to the card level & humanized them more. I now like to imagine the 'player' as some vague guiding force, seeking to be the supreme will of magic for a given plane & represented by some sort of colored star/sun, and the cards are some form of unwitting pawns to this vague force :)

As far as the question, probably Tarkir: I like all that steppes - open & free setting. Reminds me of this cool general dude in the old Conan movie who talks about the "open steppe, fleet horse, falcons at your wrist, and the wind in your hair" -- Then Conan promptly talks raping and pillaging.

RazortoothMtg says... #24

Yarr, y'all be talkin' 'bout yer favrit planes ta live on. I would live on te prosperous seas of Ixalan, plundering te booty from te hapless vampires. Arrgh.

September 21, 2017 11:04 p.m.

MWorl91 says... #25

The intention of Planeswalker cards is the player is receiving help from a buddy.

I also answered as if it were real me and not Planeswalker me. Planeswalker me would try and see if there was a way to manipulate either the Slivers, Phyrexians, or the Eldrazi so that I could have my own private army. I would of course need some way to construct a planar bridge or Portal so that the Slivers or Phyrexians could travel with me. I would attempt to make Zendikar my home plane. They've been weakened and likely could not survive another invasion.

September 22, 2017 8:18 a.m.

Mortlocke says... #26

MWorl91 here, have this Hivestone. :) While you think you're controlling us...we're really the ones controlling you.

September 22, 2017 8:43 a.m.

RAVNICA, DUH!

September 22, 2017 10:33 a.m.

Spirit_Logan says... #28

Well...I like technology, so Kaladesh is my first choice. Then Phyrexia? It's dangerous, but full of technology. 3rd pick- Tarkir.

October 3, 2017 4:20 p.m.

Everyone here is talking about planes full of dragons and eldrich horrors and here I am thinking Lorwyn...

I mean, look at this! Show

Even the swamps are pretty! It's a plane that;s permanently the best 4 hours of an early autumn afternoon. All the denizens are either pleasant or reclusive, and the have GOATS YOU CAN RIDE! Even the goblins are just adorably stupid tricksters.

The only downside I can find is the super racist elves, but I'm not a goblin so that's avoidable and the fact that ever so many hundreds of years the whole planes goes evil if someone mucks up the ritual.and even then, I would turn evil too and still enjoy it!

October 7, 2017 5:13 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #30

Yeah.... I think I can get. Behind Postmortal_Pops answer.

October 7, 2017 5:16 p.m.

Spirit_Logan says... #31

Yes I agree

October 8, 2017 8:46 a.m.

Spirit_Logan says... #32

Nope I take back everything I said. I would travel the planes learning mind-magic, use it to control huge creatures. Then I would build a Planar Bridge and use it to take over the multiverse.

October 8, 2017 9 a.m.

guessling says... #33

I would make up my own plane, stubbornly refuse to leave when attacked by slivers, eldrazi, phyrexia et al. And then when political turmoil reached a certain point, I would leave and start over.

October 8, 2017 9:50 a.m.

windlnk says... #34

You are aware the planar bridge can't transport biological material right? every time that happens the stuff disintegrates. And that's not a design flaw that could be fixed either it's the Aether of the Blind Eternities ripping the lifeforms apart. It's kind of why Planeswalkers can't take non planeswalkers with them when they jump the spark is the only reason they survive the trip and even then it can be painful for them.

October 8, 2017 2:26 p.m.

Spirit_Logan says... #35

I'll do what Bolas Did

October 8, 2017 2:29 p.m.

windlnk says... #36

So you are going to Visit a plane murder every living being on the plane who is capable of having memory and coherent thought. Then take over the minds of incredibly ancient and powerful beings to guide the surviving babies into a new society that trains optimal fighters then kills them in their prime and magically stores all their skills and abilities into metallic skeletons of their former selves, then wait 60+ years for an army of several thousand zombies and start invading planes. You are aware that Bolas himself said that such a feat would be impossible for him after the mending drained his power right?

I know that one of the assumptions for this thread is that we can be planeswalkers but it is kind of annoying when people are making themselves out to be entities that rival or surpass characters like Yawgmoth, Urza, and Bolas.

My decision still stands Ixalan, because Dinosaurs.

October 8, 2017 2:42 p.m.

sylvannos says... #37

I, too, would choose Lorwyn for maximum /comfy/.

October 10, 2017 6:21 a.m.

DRACULA150704 says... #38

Ravnica- I'd be a selesnya person

October 11, 2017 12:29 a.m.

ZendikariWol says... #39

Well now that the eldrazi are gone, Zendikar is a beautiful wonderland again... but Ravnica is a fantastic city (or not-city), nah too much political strife. But I could befriend a dragon on Tarkir... ALL THESE CHOICES!! I have to be split between Tarkir or Zendikar.

October 11, 2017 8:45 a.m.

RazortoothMtg says... #40

Lol ZendikariWol, Political strife or giant firebreathing dragons.... obviously dragons is better. Not that I want to reive the 2016 election but I feel a world full of hungry dragons might be a bit scary.

October 11, 2017 4:52 p.m.

ZendikariWol says... #41

lol I'm thinking Dromoka, so most of those dragons are more likely to have my back than to scorch it.

October 12, 2017 10:24 p.m.

Snap157 says... #42

I'd live on Alara, first killing dragons on Jund, bringing them back to life on Grixis, and then invading Bant with an insane army of skeleton dragons.

October 15, 2017 4:53 p.m.

windlnk, Spirit_Logan could just use the original Planar Portals that the phynexians used to invade dozens (or more) planes back in the day. They can move anything, even deus ex machina!

October 19, 2017 2:56 a.m.

htfilm says... #44

I would live on Ravnica. I know this might sound lame, because of how it's pretty much the primary plane today, but it's a fairly safe place with infrastructure so that I would be comfortable, and also has areas to explore and adventure in, like the Golgari undercity or hidden Dimir areas.
