Where to start with the Lore?

I'm really interested in reading some of the books and learning more about the world behind the cards, just really intrigued by the world of Magic, and I love to read fantasy and such, but there's just so much that I don't quite know where to begin with it all.

I know there are quite a few Magic the Gathering books, but is there a good order to read them in, or are the series mostly disconnected. Which are the best to start with?

Also, I recently noticed that Wizards posts short story like articles on their site about lore for characters and sets. Are those worth delving into?

The brothers war was pretty good. They used to do novels with each set about the characters in the set. Some were better written than others.

They no longer do those, I stead they have stories on line. Most follow the current set (sometimes they cover events about special sets, like they recently did a story about the prodigal sorcerer. These are usually good reads for those interested in the story line.

The Odyssey block was really good (odyssey, torment and judgement) the events of that block flow into the following block onslaught (onslaught, legions and scourge)

pskinn01 I heard the brother's war was good. I also heard that some of the early books are not technically cannon, even though they were official WOTC books?

fadelightningmm I'll have to check those out as well. There are so many different books to get to.
