Which Tarkir is better?

Okay guys, I want to know opinions.
Is the new Tarkir better than the old Tarkir? This is a lore question so don't give me card stuff, I want to know from the most Vorthos perspective that you can. I think that the new Tarkir is stronger, as the clans are much stronger due to them living with dragons (Like in Fate Reforged). I've also heard that on Dragon Tarkir, there is much less conflict between the clans compared to Khan Tarkir. Opinions? Also feel free to discuss possibilities for what might happen in a Return to Tarkir. Cheers.

I also enjoyed the khans tarkir more. The dragons tarkir felt too primitive to me

Yea, the dragon lords oppressed the clans and took away parts of their identity(the wedge color) and they lost some of their overlap I feel, making it way more cut and dried and turned them into dragon led guilds only on Tarkir instead of Ravnica.
I liked the "old Tarkir" better, but I liked the story arc of the block lots and actually read all the UR's for that block. BFZ I've barely paid attention to, it was kinda predictable and not that surprising, we all kinda knew that the good guys would win in BFZ.

In the Khans version of Tarkir, the strengths of each clan was a result of mutual bonds and strength.
In the Dragons version of Tarkir, each clan was oppressed by the Dragon Overlords. - Durring Fate, after Ugin was saved, the Dragonlords broke many of the bonds that provided strength to the Khans.
I feel that in time, a 'revolt' will have to come. The clans will have to unite to overthrow their oppressors. - This would be largely caused by Narset's research... but possibly through some involvement of Nicol Bolas (since the killing of Ugin did not succeed.)
The details surrounding how this take place... no idea.

I personally adore Khans as it finally solidified the flavor of the wedges for us. I fell in love with the Jeskai way. Before Khans, I was primarily a Grixis player with a heavy alignment towards Esper. These days, I find myself playing Jeskai quite often.

Khans of Tarkir was so much cooler than Dragons in my opinion. The wedges have so much flavor that's really hard to emulate in other sets (I.e. Duneblast THW FLAVOR TEXT IS INSANE.) I just feel khans was better executed flavor-wise.

mathimus55 In BFZ, the allied forces are far from winning. Ob Nixilus fucked the hedron network that could have bound Ulamog, and he awoke Kozilek. The allies are in deep shit.
On topic, Khanswas overall better for humans, but obviously worse for the dragons. Perspective yo.

@TheDevicer Literally every strand of flavor text in KTK was like poetry.

We have definitely not seen the last of Tarkir, it was a fan favorite and it seems like there is still plenty of story there. Narset is studying the Clans and Khans, Sidisi is planning for her betrayal, Zurgo is obviously not happy (whether he has the strength to fight is arguable), Anafenza seems to be a protective spirit that may become a symbol of rebellion, and the Atarka clan knew all along of their history. I think chances are that Sarkhan is not going to have the final word on what the face of Tarkir looks like.

Khans were kinda dicks, but so are the Dragons, clearly. I don't think either was superior.

I liked Fate Reforged the best out of the three sets, both for story reasons and card reasons. One of the things I liked most about that was the prominence the dragons played in the storyline, but also how important the clans were in the plight against them. I feel that Fate Reforged was a balance between the two; there were dragons and there were clans, but the clans didn't down the dragons and the dragons didn't down the clans. I found the mere tone of Khans a lot better. I liked the mood it gave off with the flavor text that described the tyrannous dragons of yore, and how the fetchlands showed the tombs of the dead dragons. Then, Fate Reforged came along and fulfilled that ancient lore, but Dragons just seemed to screw it all up again. Don't get me wrong: I loved Dragons, but not in a Vorthos sense. Dragons of Tarkir made the AMAZING story of Khans obsolete because it never actually happened. The clans that WOTC was getting us attached to in Khans disappeared, and instead we got dragons. Lots and lots of dragons. I can see, from a development standpoint, why this would be awesome. Who doesn't want a bunch of really awesome dragons everywhere? But in a Vorthos standpoint, I saw it as ending something (the storyline of Fate leading into Khans) that had so much potential. The Dragons storylines' future seems pretty linear- Narset releasing the clans and then the people responding, most likely with revolt or something like that. So much else could have happened with Khans, we could have had so much story on the powerful armies of the Abzan, or the frozen frontier of the Temur. To me, it seems like they built up so much in Khans that became almost obsolete once DTK released. Maybe if in a return set they fix it, I will like it more, but for now I definitely enjoyed the vastness of Khans more. Sorry for the long post :P

The Sultai are one of my favorite groups EVER.
Simic, Azorius, Izzet, Grixis, and Sultai are far and away my favorite groups flavor wise.
I don't care about the dragon lords. Sure, giant sky lizards battling it out is fun, but the politics of Khans is fantastic.
That and I've got a soft spot in my heart for the Khmer Empire, which the Sultai are based on.
TL;DR Khans is better because Khans has Sultai. The only flavorful card in Dragons I fell in love with was Qarsi Sadist.

The thing is, the people of the new Tarkir are dominated and largely abused. Only Dromoka shows any real benevolence to them, and even she is pretty damn arrogant about it; she's still a dictator. The original timeline clans had a chance to one day make things better. With dragons about? Not so likely.

I much prefer the original Tarkir, because the current Tarkir has the dragons ruthlessly oppressing the other races of Tarkir, plus, I was much more fond of the three-colored clans over the current two-colored ones. Two-colored factions have been used many times before in this game, most notably in Ravnica, but many players had been waiting for years for wedge-colored factions, so were overjoyed when such factions were finally introduced to this game. Understandably, those same players were very disappointed when the three-colored factions each lost a color and became two-colored factions, which are much more common in this game.
Therefore, if the story ever returns to Tarkir, and I believe that it is highly likely that it shall, I hope that there is some hope for the three-colored factions to return, in some form.

To be honest I didn't really like the flavor for either option. The khan art was wonderful, you don't see Turkish armor often these days but the clans and characters had nothing I could relate to in a story sense. The reasons had even less for me than the khans in both flavor and play. It was like removing the wedge cut out the only part of each clan that was relatable for me. As for the leadership, the khans each had their own style of clan but none of them interested me. The dragons on the other hand are all sick on the same setting:tyrant... I think the only thing I really liked it off the whole set was the bolster ability and flavor in Wandering Tombshell

Well, a Return to Tarkir would be to Dragons Tarkir. But the interesting thing is that Narset is currently researching the clans, so it would be interesting to see whatever tension may occur from there.
As far as which Tarkir I prefer? I liked Khans Tarkir more. I found the clan dynamics more interesting and the complexity of motives more intriguing.
