Who is your favorite planeswalker, and why?

I am curious about this. Chandra is my favorite planeswalker after reading some of the books, and I was curious as to which walker other people like.

all good reasons. do you have a second? I gotta say as far as lore goes, she is probably tied for second for me with gideon. I don't know what it is, but I just like gideons character. though lore wise, elspeth is definitely higher up than him. bolas is oddly right after them.

From a villain perspective, I'm split in two different regards. For long term story, Nicol Bolas is obviously the correct choice. From a short term story, I really like Xenagos from the story. I hope that Wizards does more with characters that fit into single story arcs really well (I know the point of planeswalkers is to be able to re-use them storywise, but I think the short inclusion was a nice change of pace)
From a hero perspective, Elspeth is a great choice. I also really like Venser, and the entire story of Scars of Mirrodin.

Karn is an artificial Planeswalker. Made of pure silver. And created a plane.

Second for me is probably Ajani, because he was my first planeswalker, or Urza, because Urza. Oddly, Jace is probably my least favorite 'walker. I just think he's whiny and too emo, not too mention overrated and over represented. Ajani gets 5 forms? Garruk gets is a 4walker? Jace gets a 5th form and the best 'walker in the game.

Liliana. I haven't read the books, but I've read up on a lot of the stories on MTGSalvation, and Liliana is just...awesome.

Personally, I have always loved Sorin Markov it's seems as though every edition of him has been stellar in both standard and eternal formats. I'm sure I don't need to remind people of his current form in standard and how he has just been a game changer. He is just an awesome character and walker.
October 15, 2014 10:12 p.m.
Sorin Markov - super powerful, both in lore and printed cards. He won't let anyone else get too strong either, keeping others in check so the planes don't unbalance. I hope he battles Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker (who was the first card I owned)

Got a playset of Desecration Demon s back when they were like a dollar or two. Then last standard happened.
Unfortunately, I still have them.

My favorite Planeswalker... well that would have to be Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver , shes so mysterious and he/she/it EATS YOUR DREAMS UNTIL YOU DIE... whats not to like?

Mine is nissa....cuz elves.....elves man....also I have not really heard of any sorin be good....

My favorite was always Teferi. He's such a bad ass, and time magic is pretty cool. I like that he is back in Commander 2014 as a full-fledged Planeswalker. He must've been able to survive using his time magic long enough to get his spark back.

Mine has to be Tamiyo, the Moon Sage although there isn't a ton of lore about her, still very interesting. Plus I just love the artwork accompanying a sweet card

Sorin. Definitely Sorin. He is a keeper of balance and order. He stopped the Eldrazi uprising the second time around and created Avacyn to keep balance on Innistrad.

Serra. She built an entire plane to become a utopia. I'm also a fan of Elspeth, because she's a strong independent woman who don't need no man, and Venser because awesome. Also Ashiok. Like, damn.
October 16, 2014 8:47 a.m.
Lhurgyof the C14 Teferi is Teferi before he lost his spark, he didn't get it back.
My favourite 'walker has to be Sorin. He's just badass.

Jeska, Warrior Adept . There's so much lore with her, I mean, she was both Phage the Untouchable and Karona, False God , and caused the Great Mending that arguably changed the history of the Multiverse more than any other single event in history.
October 16, 2014 10:02 a.m.
magicnerd0815, really? Do you have a source because that really sucks. I'm sure he isn't gone as a character though.
October 16, 2014 10:11 a.m.
Lhurgyof apparently the link doesn't work for some reason. Just go to the MtgSalvation wiki page about Commander 2014 and there to references. It's number 5 there.

The Elspeth comments lol. I'd have to go with either Liliana or Sorin since they're in my favorite color.
If I had to pick someone outside of my color it would probably be Jace since hes the only other walker I own every copy of.

Ral Zarek . Izzet walker, only serves a dragon, badass hair, killed a weird lord (Melek), ran a maze, was in a Duels of the Planeswalkers game, final has given me 5 turns, great in control, all around awesome and dope. Hope he gets a reprint soon.
October 17, 2014 5:46 p.m.
Tibalt! No jk probably ral zarek it's not really a lore thing but when I got an intro pack my first booster pack was a ral zarek
October 18, 2014 9:45 p.m.
Smartass anwser would be 'Myself' as all the players are Planeswalkers... Correct anwser would be Teferi, after reading the Timespiral story arc, he is such a cool walker.

I'll say Sorin. I don't like much evil and it's rather associated with black, but he does seems a bit good. He created and angel to protect humans and he emprisoned the eldrazis. He also became a bit white too...

Probably post-veil Liliana. Her battle with Griselbrand lasted about half a second before she turned him into dust and...well nothing else. Or Ashiok, cause he's ascended human-hood, has a fun card, and is just awesome.

Oh man, there are so many cool planeswalkers though. I think my absolute favorite is Karn. He was Urza's masterpiece, and despite being one of the strongest beings alive, he doesn't care for violence. He's just an all around cool character, and from play value, Karn Liberated is my choice for the best planeswalker in EDH (the format I play most). On tpp of this, his broken effects are supported by his flavor. He's a golem designed to move through time. His +4 exiles a card from the hand. That's dealing with the future. His -3 exiles a permanent. That's the present. His -14 restarts the game, which is obviously traveling to the past. Beautifully created.
I'm also really digging Nahiri. She's like Emma Stone hot. She's also really flavorful. If you read her Uncharted Realms (if not, DO SO), you might notice that her Lithomancer representation is pretty much based on that story. She used her +2 and her -10 at the beginning to give the refugee girl the Stoneforged Blade. Interstingly enough, the Stoneforged Blade is also super flavorful, based on the Uncharted Realms. Ulamog was unable to destroy the Stoneforged Blade. And of course, her -2 is a nice call back to Stoneforge Mystic.

I'm not very familiar with many of the Pre mending Planeswalkers, so my pick is going to be limited. My all time favorite is Sorin Markov . Aside from being my colors of choice, he is a character that has a lot of depth. We know he helped stop all life from being wiped out in the Mulitverse, and made himself hated on his own plane for the greater good. His attitude, while cold, fits what he has gone through. Game wise, I love his cards, his newest one looking great.
My other pick would be the newly introduced Nahiri. While we knew about her for a while, we have just been given a story about her, and a new card for commander. I loved her personally, passionate and not afraid to speak out, but also kind while strong. Her upcoming card doesn't really impress me. I don't use equipment, so while I can see her value, I doubt I will use her.
Finally, while not a Planeswallker anymore, Ob Nixilis is a character I like. Having lost his spark, her has spent many years on one plane hoping to find a way to get his spark back. I really hope we get more story from him.

Urza. One day they'll actually print him, and then we'll finally have a second artifact Planeswalker... Aww, I can see it now... 'Urza, Master Artificer' His first ability will of corse be something like '+2: Put a +2/+2 artifact creature into play with flying' ;)
November 6, 2014 1:59 a.m.
Thats not him as Planeswalker though. Only when he's printed as such with his awesome, Matt Wilson designed armour and Thran Powerstones for eyes will we truly have him :)

I'm pretty torn between Tamiyo, the Moon Sage and Karn Liberated.
Tamiyo, because she loves the mystery of discovering a new plane, and values knowledge over everything else. When she went to Innistrad, all she cared about was the moon. She didn't care about the conflict, all she sought was the truth behind why the moon caused people to change. And this is true for any plane she visits. She finds a mystery, falls in love with it, and spends her time solving it.
Karn, because he essentially went "Fuck this shit, I'm out" then made his own plane. When Memnmarch went a little nuts, Karn came back, waved his hands, and fixed everything again. Eventually, Karn travelled through time, saved a plane, turned into a Phyrexian god, and then was cleansed and turned back into Karn.
Those are my two favorite planeswalkers.

I have to say Ral Zarek. His back story is just awesome to read, although it is too short and doesn't go too much into detail. I would love to seem him make a reentry later on down the road. Also, his -7 is just nuts. When I play him in EDH, people just look at it and sigh, because they know I am going to drop him, and have him protected. lol. Along with knowing exactly what I am going to play the next 3-5 hands. I also love the artwork. With a foil version of him, the artwork also stands out. Very cool card.
November 19, 2014 3:49 p.m.
Tamiyo, the Moon Sage. She is one of the only "non combat" planeswalkers, to start. By that, I mean she isn't involved in any major (or any that we know of) fight. Instead, she travels plan to plane, falling in love with mysteries and spending her days unraveling them. When she went to Innistrad, she was more interested in why the moon changed people than the conflict between the humans and and non humans. She values intelligence and knowledge over all else.
That is why she is my favorite planeswalker.

I have two favourites: Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas, mainly because I like his -4, and Chandra, Pyromaster because Chandra is pretty fun to play around (and I kinda find her and Tezzy attractive, so that helps) with in conjunction with Ral Zarek, my third favourite.

Elspeth, because she was the first "good" walker. Also because she's a badass woman who manages to kill a god and the demon who tore Alara apart in the first place. And she's a survivor of Phyrexia.
