Will Eldraine be Related to the Current Story?

At this moment, nothing is known of the story of Throne of Eldraine, so I naturally am wondering if the story of that set shall have any connection to any previous story.
I myself would prefer that the set be self-contained, with only brief mentions of any previous story, since the story just reached the conclusion of an epic arc, so it would be nice to have several smaller story arcs before another major arc begins.
What does everyone else say about this? Will Throne of Eldraine have any connection to any previous stories?
Given that WOTC has said that the set will have 3 walkers, the twins and a new walker, I do not expect this to contribute to the existing story.

Well one of the weirder things I thought was in the poster art for the set (if anyone can find it that would be great.) that shows Rowan she bares a striking resemblance to Elspeth. With the cape and funky looking sword. I honestly don’t know what to make of it but it’s an interesting thought.

To me the move to create this plane Eldraine is almost too obvious. They want the brand to grow and they have a TV show planned. So they're trying to get the whole brand ready for the big show and mass media. When Muggles find out about Magic the Gathering there needs to be a super obvious mass media styled medieval fantasy plane as a setting. Amongst all the different planes in the magic history there isn't really one that is cleanly about traditional medieval mass media fantasy tropes. Innistrad was too dark, Lorwyn was too weird, and Dominaria is too steeped in esoteric Magic culture. And of course there is the all too obvious reference in the damn name to Game of Thrones. So we are getting Disneyland styled Game of Thrones as a plane with random fairytale characters mixed in like watching Shrek on a weird acid trip. Cool, it sounds neat but not exactly original.
However I don't think that them creating this plane has anything to do with creating a new storytelling dynamic. I personally doubt this begins some new paradigm with miniseries style storylines that are unconnected. I feel like every step in the magic story is going to be more intentional than ever from now on. It's possible that stand alone sets like the Commander product or whatever could have a mini story that's not part of the main magic story, but I doubt they are going to stray from standard sets delivering their primary narrative. And don't forget the last major story arc began on Ixilan which was a new plane also.

Throne of Eldraine as a setting for the TV show? Highly doubt it. Eldraine is steeped in too much other stuff and it will confuse the audience. Both fairy tales and king arthur have been done to death. The best tv show setting is ravnica.
WE just had the most major climax of a story in mtg history, except the battle with Yawgmoth. I think the story will be setup for things to come.

Boza best TV show setting is definitely the Eldrazi storyline on Zendikar and if not, the Khanfall and if not that, the Fall of Mirrodin. But that’s a subject for a different thread.
I’m just curious right now about your source on where WotC talked about the next set’s walkers. I don’t doubt its validity, I just want to keep up to date!

Hasn’t it already been announced the show will focus in Chandra? Or did I make that up?

Nah not a thing other than the writers and directors has been released, saj0219- but Chandra is on the one piece of promotional material we’ve seen. Unfortunately she’s also my least favorite gatewatch member other than Nissa. Even Chad got more development!

Rzepkanut, Mark Rosewater said that he has been attempting to make this set for almost a decade, so I doubt that this set has any connection at all to the upcoming television series, although I personally do not see what difficulty there could be in making a set whose main theme is "King Arthur meets the Brothers Grimm."

The Netflix series is going to have its own continuity separate from the main game story continuity. It will be a similar idea to the Marvel Cinematic Universe vs the comic books it's based on. The idea of having multiple continuities on the go gives me very mixed feelings about the whole thing.
I think the Throne of Eldraine story will be mostly standalone, but with small links to the grander scheme. Maybe it will have some seeds for a future arc. We're at a spot where we get to see a snippet or two of what's been going on around the multiverse while we were paying attention to Bolas and the Gatewatch.
Also, it was MaRo on Blogatog who confirmed the set's planeswalkers as Rowan, Will, and someone new.

I think Throne of Eldraine is meant to be a pause in the current story. Some relief from the Gatewatch story of the same Planeswalkers which we've been bombarded with for quite a while now. It helps that the main Planeswalkers of ELD are not part of the Gatewatch or any part of the current story.
The fairy tale theme will require a lot of space in the story to get it right. There's simply not enough room to include current story as well as Wizards take on the fairy tales and Arthurian stories that are most likely going to be the stories of the set. Maro has already confirmed that ELD is the only set on Eldraine; after ELD the next set is on another plane. That plane could be a return plane and if it is that will most likely be the continuation of the current Magic story.

ZendikariWol mark said on his blog that this is the home plane of the twins rowan & will kenrith, right after he revealed the art of rowan kenrith, then on his blog said will has definitely not went from a planeswalker to a creature, then stated one of the planeswalkers would be brand new. Also said started with this set, not counting core sets the planeswalker count would go back to 3. Meaning everyone is expecting will, rowan, and a brand new one

Today, WotC announced that there shall be an E-book for this set, which severely angers me, because this is now the second time in recent years that WotC shall be charging money for players to follow the story, the first being War of the Spark; after several years of providing the stories for free, how can they do this to their loyal fans?

DemonDragonJ, I’m super upset about this too, especially after the concerning dropping of msrp, the hiking up of commander precon costs (yes I am still upset about it) as well as the final masters and horizons costing more...
It’s not like Magic isn’t selling well either. Mark Rosewater said on the Command Zone podcast today (the video was recorded like a weed ago?) that Magic has more players now than literally ever before.
Idk. I’m not so upset about them selling a book. I get that. It’s a book. But I am more annoyed by it than I would normally be, because there’s been some dubious shit going down lately.

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment, I wonder if the scope of the stories currently just necessitates being released as novels instead of article-sized stories. Novels are better suited to contain the higher quality of writing that readers have been demanding. There is also just a lot of moving parts to the story right now too.
Novels simply take too long to release one week at a time. The WAR prequel, The Gathering Storm, makes for a prime example as it won't be finished for another 3 months still. Yes it is being released for free, but we'll be two sets away before it's done. If it were being hosted on the Mothership then we would probably have to wait until it finished before getting any Throne of Eldraine stories. The sets' stories would just start backing up into each other.
I think what we are seeing are the effects of Wizards putting in a greater effort to provide us with more story, and at higher quality. Both of these things many people have been demanding for the last few years.

I don't think so. Wizards of the Coast may take characters from previous expansions and place them within this side-story. The Wanderer was left open for exploration, Kasmina, Garruk hasn't been seen in a while, Koth is imprisoned on New Phyrexia, etcetera. There are also older planeswalkers with a sliver of a chance of showing up, such as Geyadrone Dihada, a demon planeswalker who had confronted Dakkon Blackblade. Her death was never shown.
There are many open places for old stories to aspire to new ones, and I hope that WOTC implements those. I don't think that Chandra, Jace, or anyone of that sort will make an appearance.
