Top 10 Strongest Planeswalkers?
So Im sure there is a lot of talk on who is the strongest (Active) Planeswalker. So I was just wondering who you guys think are the top 10 list. Just for reference these are only the Planeswalkers that are currently alive and active (I.e. Teferi is alive but lost his spark so does not count)
I will give mine as well as why I picked them.
Karn - Karn is a premending walker that created his own plane and was the heart of the Legacy weapon that Killed Yawgmoth.
Nico Bolas - This is up to interpretation but I think that one and two are very close. While Bolas is very powerful he is also extremely arrogant which makes him have a weakness. Also premending.
Ugin - Ugin was just revived and he was also a premending walker that was one of the original group that sealed away the Eldrazi.
Ob Nixilis - He has been able to fight toe to toe and beat Jace, Gidion, and Nissa, and was only drove away when Chandra freed all of them. Also premending.
Sorin - He is an ancient premending Vampire that was also one of the group that sealed the Eldrazi the only reason I didnt put him at 4 was because he split his power in to Avacyn. With her gone I am not sure if he got that power back.
Ajani - he has been able to fight on almost equal terms with Bolas and has shown how strong he can be quite a few times. First post-mending walker.
Garruk - now that he is cursed I think that he has become much stronger.
Sarkhan Vol - After khans, I feel like he has made his mark enough to make it on.
Lilly (With the Chain Veil) - She has shown that she can raise hordes of undead, and wipe away an army of angels and humans. And kill high level demons. She is also technically premending.
Gidion Jura - I am not sure with this one, the gatewatch seem all pretty even.

Only walkers that are cards? Or any walker from official lore?
For walkers that are cards: Im with you on your top5 (OP) and the others arent really that far from each other. Id put lili higher tho, especially since she got the chain veil and all. And nahiri...yeah

Pfft why limit it to alive PW?... Karn is only alive because of Venser. And really Venser is within Karn.. so Venser wins!

umlweatherman There are a ton of walkers mentioned that are dead and never really expanded on, so it is tough to place them plus just the sheer number.
Also if you think about it, it is also Venser's fault that Bolas came back in Time spiral.

gonna have to pretty much agree with JWiley129's list. that seems pretty close to correct. Bolas definitely is at the top. only thing is Karn and Ugin might be swapped around, kinda hard to tell.

It's tough but I'd say:
1) Ugin/Nicol Bolas
2) Karn
3) Ob Nixilis
4) Ajani
5) Nahiri/Sorin
6) Sarkhan
7) Chandra
8) Jace
9) Nissa
10) Gideon
It's tough and really any could be argued in a wide variety of ways since their feats are vague and often non-specific. I'm sure some of the lesser-known like Venser may be stronger than some of the Gateway ch based on hyperbole but his showings are rather limited.
For the record I'd put Elspeth as a top 5 contender were she still alive, and I've never really found Liliana impressive outside of Veil-cursing Garruk. All the members of the Gateway ch I believe could be hotly contested as well, but I think Chandra's showing against Nixilis in Oath puts her marginally above the others right now. But again, it's arguable and all are fairly equal.
But this is just my opinion, take it for what it's worth (not much lol).

I hate Jace but there is no denying his power. If he wanted to, he could wipe the minds of everyone throughout the Multiverse, leaving them with no knowledge of how to function. Jace probably has the most potential as a Planeswalker. I wonder what he would have been like if there wasn't the Mending. Meanwhile, Liliana is still the bomb. Once her true power with the Raven Man and the Chain Veil is unleashed, she will be so lit, powerful, and undefeatable.

I feel like people are underestimating Karn's power here. The guy literally created a plane of existence. I mean, sure, no one quite knows what his power level is at now with Venser's heart but....
Bolas wanted to gain power by destroying a plane, the creation of a plane takes MILES more power.
For me?
Karn.
Bolas.
Ugin.
Sorin.
Tamiyo.
Jace.
Ajani.
Chandra.
Nissa.
Liliana.
Tamiyo has proven in recent stories that she is far more adept at mind magic than Jace. Blocking out Emraukul's voice as easy as flicking a switch.

To be fair, creating a plane is apparently tantamount to a weekend project for premending planeswalkers. Phyrexia was created by a planeswalker.
"Phyrexia was created by an ancient evil planeswalker. Little is known of him, aside from the fact that he preferred to assume the form of a dragon"
I would say that guy is pretty powerful... And not listed as dead or desparked... And probably ugin.

You all are forgetting about Nahiri. No one else could trap or attract the Eldrazi titans. She is boss

Postmortal_Pop That's Yawgmoth and he's believed to be ded as shit.

Yawgmoth is deader than Vindicate can possibly make him.

Actually no, yawgmoth was a thran and native to dominaria. He fled to phyrexia and took over to avoid trial for his crimes on dominaria by using a portal opened by a planeswalker for him.

Yes, yawgmoth is dead. However, yawgmoth was not a planeswalker, nor did he create the plane of phyrexia. Follow the link in my last post.

You previous post seemed to refute his death. Clarity is gained.
One flaw about your previous thought about it being Ugin though. Ugin isn't evil. At worst he's neutral.

This is true, but looking at the information provided thus far, the inner theorist in me can't help but notice the lack of good on his resume. I mean, he locked away the eldrazi, that's good... But he did it with the help of a morally ambiguous vampire and a chick that's totally willing to damn a whole plane to the same fate she spends centuries fighting. At the moment you could just as easily say that they were three lesser Nicol Bolas' agreeing to eliminate a larger threat.

Personally i think that most people think Jace is way more powerful then he actually is, while he has the potential to be strong in his current state i do not think that he deserves a spot on the top 10. (his cards are not good indicators of his power)
Also Yawgmoth, while dead, i think he will somehow make another appearance somehow, if you look back to Karona and her story she meets someone name Yawgmoth and he says he is rebuilding. But she was crazy so I dont know how true that is.

Most sources count that entire meeting with Kronda as a delusion. Primarily because she meets Teferi there too but Teferi later has no knowledge of her.
June 24, 2016 2:24 p.m.
Ok my list is as follows
1.Ugin
2.Karn
3.Sorin
4.Nicol Bolas
5.Ajani
6.Nahiri
7.Tamiyo
8.Sarkhan
9.Ob nixilis
10.Liliana
Ok so since I know there's gonna be inevitable arguements against this list let me explain myself. Nicol Bolas is incredibly powerful and he is a brilliant mastermind. However here's his problem. I can't see him defeating Karn any day and he manipulated his way into a situation where he could best Ugin. Ugin was winning that fight until Yasova used whatever magic Nicol Bolas taught her to change all the planes dragons against Ugin. Otherwise I'm in the firm belief Ugin would've won. Sorin is above Bolas because I believe the two are equals power wise but Bolas has a track of underestimating mortals which I think would give Sorin the ideal opening. Nicol Bolas is 4th for the aforementioned reasons. 5th goes to Ajani you defeated Nicol Bolas in basically god mode and stripped him down to size. Nahiri single handedly put all the eldrazi Titans back in chains all by herself. I think Tamiyo is holding back since she has the three locked scrolls. Sarkhan is pretty powerful in dragon form and he's followed by ob nixilis who defeated all of the gatewatch. Then finally there's Liliana who's gonna prove her metal against Emrakul

I do like your original list, and agree with it for the most part. My only disagreement would be if we could count walkers that are dead. If so, Urza goes up somewhere around 4 or 3, and Elspeth gets the 10 slot over Jace, maybe even the 9 slot over Liliana. I'd dearly love to see Elspeth duke it out with Ob Nix for some reason. If you're reading this, WOTC, please take note!
Also, this depends on the situation. If it's combat, then the list would mostly stay the same (excepting Elspeth and Urza, of course). If it's just in terms of capacity to enact magic of some sort, then that's where it gets interesting. If that's the case, Gideon never gets close, as his power is pretty situational. Same for Sarkhan and Garruk. Sorin ranks close to the top of the list in this scenario, just below Nicol Bolas and Karn, maybe tied with Ugin. Nahiri would also get a spot, around 5, because of the Hedron network.
Also, to those who think that Nahiri would outrank Sorin in non-combat, Nahiri's most impressive achievement was the Zendikar Hedron Network, meant to bind beings of godlike power, that in fact could very likely kill most deities. Sorin created a godlike being (Avacyn) that he specifically designed to be able to negate beings like the Eldrazi (she was keeping Emrakul off of the plane just by existing!). Furthermore, he created an extremely effective detainment system for beings of power, also designed to imprison godlike beings (it held Avacyn and an extremely large number of demons, some of whom were quite powerful, as well as a pre-mending walker). In short, Sorin not only created something that had an almost identical purpose and function as Nahiri's hedron network (if different in method and implementation), but did it more efficiently, with his prison being much smaller in physical size than the Hedron network that spanned continents. Furthermore, he created one of teh most powerful non-walker beings seen thus far in MTG, outside of Yawgmoth and Emrakul. This sets him in the big leagues, well beyond Nahiri.

kruppe Nahiri literally just beat Sorin in the newest Magic Story after summoning Emrakul to Innistrad. Those actions kind of speak for themself.

Dredge4life says... #27
I'm under firm belief that Sorin should have won that battle, and was acting out of character so WotC could have him in the Gatewatch's debt for the story. He's signifigantly stronger than Nahiri.

Titilanious says... #28
His power was split when he built the helvault as well as made Avacyn so he made him considerably weaker

Dredge4life says... #29
But he was still able to beat Nahiri in terms of raw power both times, and if it wasn't for plot convenience he would have killed her.

This is tricky...
I'd say
