As Epochalyptik suggested on another thread, here is a thread to discuss Zendikar, and the Eldrazi pillaging.

damn I didn't know that about Nissa, if I were Sorin I'd punch her lol
But in all seriousness, I think I remember reading on the Magic wiki that the Eldrazi had nearly destroyed Zendikar the first time, but Zendikar was able to basically heal itself back to normal, and that's when Nicol Bolas set them loose again.

Nicol Bolas didn't set the Eldrazi loose again. If I remember my lore correctly, he had little to do with Zendikar at all (at least during the events of ROE).
It was actually Jace Beleren, Chandra Nalaar, and Sarkhan Vol meeting in the Eye of Ugin that caused the most recent breakdown. The Eye is the site of the seal that keeps the Eldrazi imprisoned. It was constructed by three ancient planeswalkers (Sorin Markov is one of them) and later resealed when the Eldrazi threatened to break free for the first time since their imprisonment. The presence of planeswalkers in the Eye therefore seems to disturb the enchanted barrier enough to allow some of the Eldrazi to escape.

If I may contribute: the three original jailers of the Eldrazi were Sorin Markov, the dragon planeswalker Ugin, and an unknown Litheomancer (correct spelling?). Sorin's magic leached the life out of the Titans, Ugin's colorless magic battled them, and the Litheomancer created the hedrons to keep them within Zendikar. When they realized they couldn't kill the Titans, they modified their plans to trap them on Zendikar forever.
The seal on the Eye was thus: 3 planeswalkers (Jace, Chandra, Sarkhan), the spark of a dragon (Sarkhan), and the colorless breath of Ugin's flame (Chandra). Sarkhan needed to be defeated by the colorless flame because the hedrons in the caverns were absorbing all their magic.
Jace, Chandra, and Sarkhan were all there becauseof Bolas. Bolas had already defeated (and probably killed) Ugin to discover the secrets to the Eye, which Bolas had already went to and studied. He knew Chandra had the map to the Eye and knew she would go there so he sent Sarkhan to "guard" the Eye. Bolas then gambled on Jace following Chandra.
I believe that there is still a force keeping the Eldrazi on Zendikar, but I'm pretty sure it's weakening with the plane.

The problem here is that the story ends with the Eldrazi loose on Zendikar. All we really know about what happened was in the Savor the Flavor post about the battle of Fort Keff and the flavor text from Near-Death Experience . Presumably Gideon goes to the Infinite Consortium, but I remember reading something about it falling apart while Jace was gone (freeing the Eldrazi). Gideon promises to come back at the very end, but I really don't know what happens. We next see him on Ravnica, but as far as I know, he doesn't meet up with Jace and talk about defeating the Ealdrazi or anything like that.

Gideon saw emrakul and was like "oh shit". He then planeswalked to ravnica to rally help and got sucked into the events in rtr.

where did Nissa Revane go? did she stay on zendikar?
i read somewhere that she, like Gideon Jura planeswalked away to another plane to get help, and that the plane she traveled to was one she would never go to again because it was totally the opposite of how she is. i don't remember the exact wording, but the context made it seem like she was planeswalking to Ravnica, a busy metropolis and totally unlike the forests of Zendikar.

As far as I know, the Eldrazi were loose and wreaking havoc on Zendikar last we saw them. They may have left the plane by now, but there should be at least some (probably some of the Drones and Spawns) remaining in Zendikar.
Nissa Revane kind of botched the plane when she shattered the hedron containing the Eldrazi progenitors and let them loose on the plane. She wanted the Eldrazi off Zendikar for good, and she assumed they'd leave, but the Eldrazi were content to feed on the mana-rich plane.
Sorin Markov was in the original triad that sealed the Eldrazi on Zendikar, and he led the expedition to reseal the enchantment barrier, but Nissa's actions caused him to abandon the plane and her. Nissa later went before a council and swore she would find Sorin and force him to help, even though it was Nissa herself that loosed the Eldrazi upon the plane despite Sorin's attempts to recontain them.
tl;dr: Nissa's a bitch.
