Attending my first Modern FNM

Modern Deck Help forum

I am building my first modern deck and I keep going back and forth on whether to build U-Tron or U/R Storm. Im only competing in FNM's but I am wanting to go in there and make it competitive and not get steam rolled. Im not entirely sure what my LGS meta is composed of but I do know there is some burn, affinity and probably some control but other than that I have no clue.

I was wanting to go with grixis delver but now that snapcaster as shot up, I think thats a little out of the question. Unless it is possible to use him as a 2 of in the delver deck.

Any help would be awesome!

I'm not a modern expert but Tron would probably be more competitive than storm or delver. However in my opinion storm and delver are both more fun to play than tron. It really depends on what kind of experience you are looking for.

Random thought; not sure if it's helpful or not, but it does make me feel better.

In the Top 16 of GP Charlotte, only 3 of the 16 decks there played Snapcaster Mage.

Delver with snapcasters > Delver with 2 snapcasters > Delver with zero snapcasters > Tron > Storm

That's pretty much the rundown of power here. You don't need snappy to be an efficient deck. Just run some gurmag angler.

You don't need four snapcaster mages in grixis delver. Three is the usual number so two isn't really that far off. Just run another cantrip, terminate, or counter or maybe even a 4th young pyro if you don't already have one and you should be fine.

thanks for all the suggestions guys. Currently I don't have any snaps but buying 2 won't break the bank too much. I just remember when UR Delver was the thing with Treasure Cruise and looking at those list, from what I remember they never ran any snaps except maybe a one of here and there.

I only run 2 of my 4 Snapcaster Mages in my Grixis Delver list, Grixis Delver. Been playing the deck for a while and this list has been consistently the best for me.

I went to my local modern FNM few weeks ago and I did pretty good with my Zendikar standard Deck: Mono Green Beastmasters. Not a lot of people were sure exactly how to play with it because it was...well out of style so to speak.

My advice is play a deck that you feel comfortable with, as the main goal is to have fun.
