Finishing Touches on U-Tron

Modern Deck Help forum

I have been working on a U-Tron deck based on the one that Dalektable was selling a little while back since about that time. I have mostly made minor changes, but I'm looking for those final notes from more experienced players like Ohthenoises to figure out what cards might be switched to improve the deck itself.

I am also working on my gameplay itself with the deck, so if you look at the general plays and decisions I make in a game in my updates, I'd love to hear feedback on what I did right and wrong. They're not 100% play-by-plays, but they are decently thorough for after-game synopses.

My deck is Ugin Makes Bland Paintings....

Some of the Options I'm Considering.

  1. Crucible of Worlds: It is quite rare that I side in all 3 Echoing Truth, and I think that I might be better served by the ability of having access to my lands. Since I have started testing, I have been victimized by sb Fulminator Mages and Ghost Quarter. Having access to this would be extremely helpful.

  2. Pact of Negation: There are many times when it is critical for me to tap out for something in order to survive a turn, but that leaves me vulnerable to burn or allowing more threats to resolve before I get to untap my lands. Pact of Negation allows the element of surprise to take effect if drawn, and after my opponent sees it in one game, they might fear it in the next, which is an added benefit. Moreover, the spell is fetchable with Tolaria West, which could prove useful if I know I need a counterspell. I would probably replace a Remand with this spell, but I could also substitute out a Condescend, but I think I find it more useful from play.

  3. Monastery Siege over Bottle Gnomes. I have a feeling that this substitution could really help me in what is a very tough burn matchup. It could also provide me with some extra card advantage if needed, but I'm timid to make the change. Ha! Let me know if it seems better to you.

  4. 2 Ghost Quarter over Tectonic Edge and an Island. It's hard for me to make this judgment for a few reasons. First, I like the raw land advantage provided by Tectonic Edge that Ghost Quarter cannot provide. Second, U-Tron needs to have blue mana more than it needs to set up Tron in a lot of instances, so losing an Island could make a big difference in play. On the flip side, having Ghost Quarter gives you the option of turning a land targeted by Fulminator Mage into an Island as opposed to nothing.

  5. Pithing Needle might fill the spot of the third Echoing Truth as well. I absolutely hate Karn Liberated, Fulminator Mage, Ghost Quarter, Celestial Colonnade, etc. This would send a lot of hate to my opposition, but I could only afford it as a 1-of. I worry that I would need to replace a Treasure Mage with a Fabricate to justify that, and I need that body to chump in a lot of matches.

Oh, also, I really need help with the GR Tron matchup.
