Hi there! New player looking to get into modern with black/white!
Modern Deck Help forum

Just recently bought the Fate Reforged - Clash Pack and a 2015 core set. I messed around with them for a few days, rebuilt the decks a little and then decided I wanted to start from scratch.
But all the cards I like and WANT to play are in modern. I understand that modern has a higher initial cost to break into so I understand my deck might be a little weak as I do have a budget.
In any case, I put together a black white deck designed around building life and boosting creature to high stats with low mana costs.
Would really appreciate any advice you have to give :)

Honestly, if you're a new player, you like playing B/W, and you want a good base of cards to start with, I'd look into getting the M:TG Modern Event Deck.
It's more B/W tokens than B/W lifegain, but there's a lot of cards from it that work in both. Plus, it'll only cost you about $75.

If you really like wb life gain I would suggest slowly starting to assemble the pieces for a primarily white splashing black soul sisters list as most of the parts are relatively cheap cards such as Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, Spectral Procession, Squadron Hawk, Ajani's Pridemate while the more pricey cards of the deck are things like Serra Ascendant, Path to Exile and if your splashing black probably Thoughtseize, and Inquisition of Kozilek.

Just going to put it out there that the good stuff that black offers has a negative impact on the lifegain plan overall. It's less consistent with the mana base, costs more money, and is less effective at killing the opponent.

Modern CAN be really expensive. It doesn't have to be. Typically your biggest costs are going to be your non-basic lands (obviously creatures like Tarmagoyf notwithstanding. You can build a fairly strong Modern deck utilizing cheap spells and use your budget for your lands for consistency.
