Jace UoS v. Revelation for WU Control

Modern Deck Help forum

I'm running a budget white/blue control deck that currently has 3x Sphinx's Revelation (no Teferi or Mind Sculptor. Like I said, budget.) However, I do have a copy of Jace, Unraveler of Secrets floating around. I'm considering swapping out 1x Revelation for 1x Jace. Thoughts?

what about Jace, Architect of Thought, a card that even recently pops up in mtgo w/u lists on tcgplayer for good results, course it's the pre mindsculptor unban tap out style control.

I already have 1x Jace, Architect of Thought and I don't really want a second. I also have all the win cons I really need. It's mostly just a card draw decision I'm trying to solve. Here's the decklist if that helps:

Revelations

Honestly after looking at your list I think you should add 3x more Geist of Saint Traft

I also think you need more counters and if you still want more draw Think Twice is my go to.

Honestly I would play U/W Control in standard instead. Most of your deck is standard anyways. Theres no way that deck wins regularly at a competitive level Modern tournament.

@ArchonBlue - That's pretty terrible advice. I'm sure OP opted for Modern because they prefer the format or are looking for a long-term investment.

your deck is currently extremely budget for modern. If you're looking for improvements, I'd suggest not running 3x Rev. It's extremely greedy. Most optimized lists run none. For card draw, I'd consider Hieroglyphic Illumination instead. You can throw it away early or use it to grind late. When you upgrade your deck to have 4x Terminus, you can set up a miracle on your opponent's turn with the cycling. Still, that plan only gets to be reliable once you can use Mind Sculptor to set the play up. Still, illumination is a deceptively good card. I'd actually rate it higher than Glimmer of Genius.

For the current near future, I'd work to acquire as many of the powerful answers that the deck relies on. This means Cryptics, Paths, etc. first. I would then worry about win cons and lands. Those two you can afford to build on budget. UW is a deck based around fighting for inches. None of your powerful win cons will matter if you can't reasonably stop people from going off first. Right now, I'd consider 1x Timely Reinforcements in the main along with some number of Wall of Omens. Those are cheap pickups that will allow you to buy some time. Oust and Condemn are also adequate.

(removing the assumption this deck would be played in a tournament) Yes I would say swapping revelation for a jace would improve the deck, though I still think architect jace would be best, back in his standard heyday with revelation both were often 3-4 copies simply because of their power to chain into another to the point where Elixir of Immortality (or my personal favorite Psychic Spiral) were actual wincons.
