Torpor Orb against Amulet - yay or nay?

I am playing burn and I was wondering how useful Torpor Orb is in making a less favourable matchup a bit better. Anybody have experience with the card and to what extent it shuts down the titan?

From a strategic standpoint, it sounds like it would work. It also stops Thragtusk from their sideboard, which can be really beneficial in the Burn matchup. It can't be easily removed, once it's out. One drawback is that it's soft to a turn 2 combo, which is fairly rare, but common enough to merit consideration. Additionally, the Torpor Orb has to stick around, so if they were to board in Nature's Claim (which is likely in their board against Blood Moon), it could fall short.

Not only can Torpor Orb hinder Bloom Titan's gameplan, but it also slows down a plethora of decks like Splinter Twin, some Merfolk creatures like Tidebinder Mage and Master of Waves, Snapcaster Mage, Kitchen Finks, and Collected Company decks. I've been playing it in my Naya Burn sideboard for a bit with great success as a 2 of. I would definitely consider it since it's a very versatile sideboard option.

It only stops the ETB effect. So you still have to deal with Primeval Titan's attack trigger. If your only worried about when he enters the battlefield, then Torpor Orb is fine.

It seems like a bit of a trap to me. Removing any damage dealing cards from your deck against a deck that does no self damage from lands is shaky to begin with. The problem with Torpor Orb against Bloom Titan is that is only slows down your opponent by 1 turn IF they are on the Primeval Titan game plan. If they are going for the Hivemind line of play (which i would seek out against burn as a Bloom Titan player) that Orb does nothing. Orb is much more effective against Bloom Titan for decks that care less about Hivemind and are interested in drawing the game out.

Burn vs. Bloom Titan is a race and you should be aiming to win the race, not slow down and gum up your deck. Deflecting Palm and Molten Rain are much more effective and work toward your win condition at the same time. I would stick with those for sure. A single deflecting palm can instantly win the game for you and a Molten Rain can prevent your opponent from doing anything for several turns as opposed to stopping a single ETB trigger.

I play both decks, but play Bloom Titan much more and i would love to see a burn player bring in Torpor Orb against me as i lean much more on Dragonlord Dromoka and Radiant Fountain to buffer the burn and seek to win via Hivemind since Primetime can bite it to a couple burn spells and often does not finish the game fast enough.

Thanks for the input guys. I think that I agree with NoPantsParade in that it stops a lot of decks such as Twin and Company, making it a decent sideboard card, but also with bkimpland in that it probably isn't the greatest in the matchup discussed.
