Trying to make One With Nothing good

Modern Deck Help forum

[[Recently I have been working on a [One with Nothing] type of brew that utilizes it in different ways. I combo this with Ensnaring Bridge and lock down the field. I want to keep it in a Rakdos Control shell if possible because Rakdos loves this kind of stuff. I also want to use red because it has a lot of those all in cards that have you draw an extra card in exchange for discarding your hand. If it is practical I would like to use hellbent too. I think that the deck can work well if it is built just right. I'm also not sure about madness going into this deck. It may or may not work but I really want to try to make a card that on its own is horrible an efficient enabler for a deck. I think it would be a huge success to have this deck actually work. Please I really need ideas for this deck, it will not work unless i can fill in lots of spots.

Also I can't find one with nothing on tapped out it won't show up, is it just that bad on it's own?

You used hard brackets on the opening of your paragraph. I'm not sure why you did this but it screws up the first thing you try to link using the hard bracket syntax. One with Nothing shows up just fine. Also it seems like you have all the basics of a deck that could abuse One with Nothing. Hellbent, madness, and so on.

Well, you can start by putting in TWO brackets on each ends. One with Nothing. Bam. :)

As for number 2, I commend you for making something like this work. I wish you the best in your endeavors. As for suggestions to help fill the slots, I have no idea. A quick search for key words for something like that could help you. Good luck!

Madness is very good in that type of deck, assuming you have enough mana to turn it on. Consider Browbeat and Phantasmagorian. I played the RB Madness precon from Planar Chaos, so I have some idea of good madness cards. Tag me if you have any specific questions and I'd be glad to help out.

If only Wilt-Leaf Liege and Loxodon Smiter didn't require the discard to be your opponent's, then One with Nothing would be quite bonkers with stuff like Bloodghast and Ensnaring Bridge.

Just to clarify my recommendations: Browbeat is a great way to refuel, and can punish your opponent for trying to stop you. Phantasmagorian lets you drop your hand size and can be a persisting threat at the same time.

madness, hellbent, ensnaring bridge, dredge, delve, and flashback all benefit from it. I'm sure there is a grixis deck with bridge, one w/ nothing, Pyromancer's Swath and Burning Vengeance control shell somewhere.

3 One with Nothing

3 Snapcaster Mage

4 Lightning Bolt

4 Think Twice

3 Serum Visions

2 Tasigur, the Golden Fang

1 Mystical Teachings

2 Infernal Tutor

3 Ensnaring Bridge

3 Mana Leak

1 Past in Flames

2 Vendilion Clique

This is just a start and just off the top of my head. If you need me to explain, I'd be happy to. Good luck :D I love Janky decks.

I like the idea of Bloodghast in this deck. Pretty nice card :D

Anyways, I can't wait to see the deck, it sounds like a cool idea.

Well, there are honestly two ways to do this. BUG/Golgari dredge/discard or an aggressive deck that uses One with Nothing to get recurring threats into the yard. Like Bloodghast. Like Gravecrawler.

I guess but what I was getting at more was a type of all in deck. Maybe that utilizes that avaricious dragon coming out in origins and maybe even using some of the rakdos cards from Return to ravnica block that just create chaos. In terms of a red black lockdown type of deck, what advice3 would you guys give on Mogis, God of Slaughter and Dragonlord Kolaghan?

June 14, 2015 1:40 p.m.

Kolaghan can be good. Especially if you force them to stall for a while. Mogis would be a sideboard card really. He's great against creature decks that shock themselves with their mana bases. Playing Dash Hopes could be fun in a Rakdos Control deck to counter key spells out of nowhere. But, with control, you can't play One with Nothing all that well since you need to hold up answers for the stuff that people are playing. If you have enough ways to get stuff in the yard (like Darkblast), you could play Dead Drop as a modern edict spell. Of course, Liliana of the Veil is an amazing card. Hand disruption in Thoughtsieze/Inquisition of Kozilek is a must. You could try to make Goryo's Vengeance work as a utility with Kolaghan and not the whole combo of the deck.

Basking Rootwalla is good with it. Also other madness stuff.

June 14, 2015 7:16 p.m.

ezio27 says... #19

yeah but the rootwalla is not modern legal

Minelia5 says... #20

why is Basking Rootwalla not modern legal? It doesn't seem that powerful. Is it just too old of a printing?

ezio27 says... #21

yeah it is old

Notice the vintage masters symbol. Also i did check online.

what about Avaricious Dragon?

June 14, 2015 9:36 p.m.

ezio27 says... #23

well he has a similar discard effect, so what i am getting at is capitalizing on that trigger or handless mentality
