What if Deceiver Exarch and Pestermite were banned?

Would there still be some form of a Splinter Twin archetype around?

Well the following deck is my take on what Twin would adapt to. It still needs some work. Please let me know what you think.

This is both a thought experiment and deck help thread, so please don't move it Epochalyptik

I don't think you get it. The idea of Twin isn't to find a shell to play Splinter Twin in, it's to play a tempo deck that can morph into a slower control deck post board that has a combo finish in it to close games. The synergy between powerful instants like Remand and combo pieces like Exarch is what makes the deck playable.

If those cards were banned, people would probably stop playing the deck, or try and splash a white creature in the same U/R shell. The deck you posted isn't playable.

What limits control to being strictly Blue? While it's where control performs best, but there is more to it than just counterspells. I never said this deck is good. In all reality the archetype would shift to a U/W/R shell and perform how it has been with a slight bit less consistency.

I think this deck is playable and viable now. TurboFagoot your a moron, you did nothing but try to criticize an idea that somebody had. In my opinion the deck looks great and you should play it at a tournament to see how it does. The only thing I would suggest is Zealous Conscripts and at least mainboarding 2 of the Pact of Negation to protect your combo. great idea and good job!

No its not. You need blue to protect the combo. Proactive is better than reactive in a combo deck. TurboFagoot is right. The point of twin isn't twin, in many ways. The point of twin is Remand.

You're playing a combo deck with no card draw that should be ringing more bells than those Village Bell-Ringers you have in there

The point of twin is not remand. The deck isn't based around remand it's based around deceiver and twin or pestermite and twin. I do agree with the no card draw though maybe Faithless Looting, or Wild Guess would do the trick. ChiefBell I think you should go back to square 1 and assess your deck logic and the point of a deck IDEA.

You can't play a slow combo without counter-magic. End of story.

Obviously if twin and pestermite etc didn't exist then Twin wouldn't exist. But equally without remand and mana leak it wouldn't exist either. It's an absolutely fundamental part of higher tier modern play. A slow deck needs a way to protect its combo because the opponent is just going to build up a ton of removal in their hand that they don't have to use because you're not doing a whole lot. Without counter-magic it's an almost an auto GG.

I shouldn't even have to explain this.

This deck, while an interesting idea, will never be playable. In u/r twin the only reason to play red is twin, bolt, and blood moon. Other than that it's mono blue control with snappy, remand, leak, visions, cryptic, and V clique. Without blue, the deck sucks.

Just as an aside, asking me not to move something doesn't really do anything for you. If a thread needs to be moved based on the topic, then I'm going to move it.

June 17, 2015 7:01 a.m.

Oh, and stormcladzeus, criticizing something doesn't make anyone a moron. If the deck has merit, it will survive criticism and develop accordingly. We're not here to pander to everyone and avoid discussing flaws.

No, what you're supposed to do is play normal R/W Aggro deck, and have the twin pieces sideboarded for game 2

I'd like to point out that Boros control already has a deck based on land denial. Throwing twin in there won't improve that.

Only skimmed through the posts, but why couldn't UR splashing white for Village Bell-Ringer and Restoration Angel work?

Blindjoker-

That deck might work, but it gets much worse overall. For one, the manabase is more strained, making Blood Moon a worse card in your board.

Second, the "tap" mode of Exarch and Pestermite is also pretty crucial. Tapping down an untapped land EoT to shut off removal/counters is a big part of how the deck plays. You lose that entirely by just playing those white creatures.

People would still force it, but the deck is not nearly as good without those blue flash guys.

Boros Twin is a thing, but it lies below Tier 2, in Rogue deck territory. I've a friend who played it on MTGO for several weeks but ultimately decided it was too weak. He has reported better success with Mono Green devotion, if that gives you an idea as to the power scale of this deck. (and I have a pretty poor opinion of Devotion)

Part of the problem might be that there IS the much more effective Tier 1 UR version that lots and lots of folks think about when designing decks and side boards. If UR Twin ever did fall out of favor or get banned into oblivion, this might become a more effective deck due to a shift in the meta. Still, you're looking at a very difficult task in making this effective even as a Tier 2 deck.

Ok, I think a lot of people are missing the point of this post. This was not created to be played in the current meta. This was developed for a world where there is no Deceiver Exarch or Pestermite.
