Which is Better for my Faerie Deck?
Modern Deck Help forum

I have this faerie deck, Faerie Nice to Beat You, and I really like it so far. There might be a few cards that need to be tweaked, but the one card I'm considering is Rune Snag over Mana Leak, but I'm not sure if this is the right build to run the Snag.
I like the Leak, but I feel like Rune Snag would be better for late game counters over Mana Leak. Can anyone help with this?
If you find any other things that need to be changed, please let me know. I'm always open suggestions.
I've played U/W midrange for a while now and had the same question. Playtesting has shown me that Runesnag becomes counterspell when you have 1 in your yard in a lot of cases. Still, the downside is there. I like it only because I can dig for it with cantrips. Really, it depends on how long your games tend to last. Looking at your build, I'm inclined to say Leak.

Generally, I would say Mana Leak because graveyard hate typically will keep Rune Snag from being better aside from maybe the second one coming down.

Usually my games last a while. I have multiple evasion spells and it tends to go longer than I wish to take on my games, but it does the job.

Have you thought about Familiar's Ruse? Might be sick in your deck, with many of the creatures having good ETB abilities.

Leak is almost always better. It's better the first time, and slightly worse the second, but it's consistent, and knowing what your cards do 100% of the time is important. Snag is a variance card which is good depending on dark and mysterious forces beyond our control.

Hmm, I might have to try that, but I've never been to fond of it for some reason. Not sure why. It's a modern playable Counterspell that can abuse the etb effects, but at the same time I'm not sure if mana fixing is going to be a problem. I might just have to try it out and see.

Well, considering the fact you only have 4 lands that can not cast it, I think you should be fine.

What is everyone's thoughts on Deprive? Seems like it's just the same seeing how CMC tend to be low in modern, but I don't know about its uses over the other cards.

Deprive sets you back a turn, whereas Familiar's Ruse allows you to Vendilion Clique... again.

True. How many do you think I should run? I think like too many and it would hurt more than it would help, but I'm not sure.

I've tried Deprive and ended up hating it. Returning lands to my hand makes this a terrible early draw. Late game, I'd rather just have a command.

Alright, cool. Thanks everybody for the help. I appreciate it. :)

I am not sure this is the build for Rune Snag. It seems like one of those cards that needs some sort of self mill or something. I am not sure of its power anyways. I'd say try both, but you'll have to run 4 copies. Besides that, the deck seems sweet. Just not sure of Rune Snag.
