Yisans and Rainbow-Chameleons. Intrigued?

Modern Deck Help forum

So there are 2 decks i really want to build. One is rather urgent and one can wait but maybe you guessed from the title:
I want to make a Yisan, the Wanderer Bard deck in Modern. I would like if the deck isn't completely focues on him though, rather his presence makes everything easy (so please no combo decks). If there are any cards that you think would fit good please tell me. Also deck-links are welcome for inspiration.

Next up is a deck i would just like to know if it would work. A Chameleon deck, so coulour changing and changing of texts on cards in general. maybe using cards like Glamerdye or Mind Bend (and obviously Chameleon Colossus).
Again decklists an card suggestions are welcome.

Also one last thing: Please keep it budget (200 max) so maybe Painter's Servant and such are not the best idea (but if other decks cost more i would still like to see them)
Thx in advance :)

Edit: i don't want the themes to be in one deck (although it could be cool but it just wouldn't work). Sorry for not pointing that out

The theme sounds cool. However color changing cards and Yisan just sounds like a losing prospect to me. Even for a budget deck there are better things to be doing. Not sure I can really suggest much.

@zyphermage I avtually didn't mean for them to be one deck (although if it would work it'd be cool). I didn't really make that clear so... yea

Problen with yissan:

Even with ramp, assuming you play him t2, he'll get you a 1 mana creature turn 3 and a 2 mana creature turn 4. You'll have lost the game by this point because you've done nothing except play two weak creatures.

@ ChiefBell yea but this isn't supposed to be competetive, but rather a fun and casual deck (just in modern). I don't really play competetive so i love to use gimmicky things.
Also i have kind of a history with Yisan: He was in the first booster of my first intro deck as a foil (along with the chandra from the set) and i just loved the mechanic on the card. And now i really want to build something with him :P

Well, if you were to play yisan in a deck, you could run the Kitchen Finks + Melira, Sylvok Outcast + Viscera Seer combo pretty effectively. If you think of it more like an attrition deck and just hold up mana for Path or whatever removal spell, then you can use Yisan's ability at the end of their turn when you can.

I feel like a deck like this could "work", just not as well as the decks that are already out there.

I believe he said no infinite combos... @Scouty

Sure, but is there a viable way to play yisan outside of that? I seriously doubt that.

@ Scouty and rorofat actually i just don't want to have an infinite-win-combo. Howeevr doing something with Melira, Sylvok Outcast and Yisan might be fun. What would you suggest for more parts of the deck?

Melira only works in an infinite game wining combo. You play her and kitchen finks and viscera seer, as has already been described.

You sacrifice kitchen finds to viscera seer and it would normally come back with a -1 counter due to persist but with melira down it just comes back without one. So you sacrifice it infinitely and gain infinite life and just win.

There's little use for melira outside of that combo.

Same combo can be done with Murderous Redcap, just so you lnow. In case the opponent is playing a deck where they can do damage ad infinatum

Or rather, if they can gain life that way..

@ChiefBell yeah maybe you are right... Anyway got this idea to make a legendary creature deck with a really thought our curve ( in order for Yisan to make the deck better).
Using things like Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip at one to things like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Erayo, Soratami Ascendant and Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit at two to Dosan the Falling Leaf and Kira, Great Glass-Spinner at three and maybe even Doran, the Siege Tower.
What i would like to kno now is are there cards that sinergize well with legendary creatures in generall? (btw. i already know about Time of Need)

Champion's Helm

Day of Destiny

Eiganjo Castle

Heroes' Podium

Hero's Blade

There are actually quite a lot of cards that care about legendary / nonlegendary status.

@ChiefBell wow this seems to be a really good strategy (not budget but eh, i can work with that). Thx for the suggestions so far and if you have any more i would be pleased to hear them :)

I am unsure which of those are modern legal or not. I didn't check, sorry.

Champion's Helm is the only one that isn't and i feel like it isn't that good outside of commander

I think your deck will want to be heavily green and run 4x Birds of Paradise and 3x Arbor Elfor something. It's important you ramp up quickly. Then run 3 to 4 Yisan and lots of other legendaries or general creatures as 1 to 2 ofs

Should i maybe consider fog effects for early stages of the game?

February 18, 2016 10:33 a.m.

PixelAlex says... #20

Also what do you think about the kaldra-equipments (Sword of Kaldra, Shield of Kaldra and Helm of Kaldra)?
I feel like i should put them in just because :P

February 18, 2016 10:34 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #21

Probably don't run fog effects. Your mana is better spent trying to accelerate your game than prevent damage.

The kaldra cycle are all very powerful but also pretty expensive. Worth it if you can get them into play without paying their huge mana costs.
