A Comment on 8-Rack

Please let me know if you relate to me on this, but I honestly LOVE the idea of 8-Rack and think it is one of the coolest strategies to defeat an opponent in Magic, However there is one thing that is keeping me from making the deck.
The art for The Rack, the flagbearer of the 8-Rack deck, is the ugliest art I've ever seen for a Magic card. I love Shrieking Affliction so I guess I could still make it but I feel like it isn't an 8-Rack deck without a playset of The Rack.
Does anyone else feel me on this?
If you look here there is another art from Duels of the Planeswalkers that you can get, if that's really a big deal for you. But you absolutely need the card if you're building 8Rack.

I will just say, that I have an 8Rack, with 4 copies of The Rack that are foiled with black border, and they look fine.

Gotcha and thanks for the comment. I really like the one from Duels of the Planeswalkers but it's 10 bucks! lol
I'll try to get over it but if not I'll look into learning how to alter cards

Yeah, I mean that's kinda the price you pay if you want the more sought after art unfortunately. I just figured I'd mention it because it is an option. Like I said, I have 4 foils that are black bordered, and they look really nice. They also cost me about $12 a piece, but its really just about what matters to you. Also, if you're looking to put together a competitive modern deck, $10 for a card really isn't that much in the scheme of things.

What kmcree said. Get the more expensive version.
Alternatively, find some awesome alters. It's a must use card, and the deck is terrible without it.

The reason to not play 8rack at the moment isnt the art. It is tresure cruise and dig through time.

I never had an issue with the art. It looks goofy but if you look to other artifacts from it's original set there was a funny theme of rag dolls in torture devices.
I don't think cruise is that big of a deal for 8rack if Ensnaring Bridge is out. It'll make the game longer sure but that's about it unless the opponent is playing some artifact hate.

Oh and given the price of making a non budgetey 8rack that probably runs Liliana if the veil the extra cash to pay for the alternate art racks is nothing.

@dan8080: Yeah that's my other problem lol. I'm a budget player because I just play Magic with my friends and at local tournaments. For that I would have to make a "budget" 8-Rack deck which might be hard to do. Liliana of the Veil is just too good to pass up.

Yeh you really need liliana in 8 rack. And yes treasure cruise destroys the deck completely because it provides the opponent with a way to sit there with cards I'm hand after you've used up all your discard spells.
8 rack runs out of steam very fast because it has no card advantage engine. If it plays against a deck that has ways to refill it's hand it loses.

I just bought the DotP racks for mine, I love the art. I honestly don't have problems with delver decks. It's called Leyline of the Void, and then Treasure Cruise is literally dead in hand. Cards like Delirium Skeins also are a perfect retort to it.
8 rack plays just like a delver deck in that it is meant to have the commanding board position when it empties out it's hand, delver is just lucky enough to have been given an Ancestral Recall.

ChiefBell Or, y'know, just play Treasure Cruise in 8-Rack. If you can't beat them, join them.
I do agree, though, that 8-Rack isn't that great with Cruise, but if it gets banned any time soon, then 8-Rack will get it's power back somewhat. It's still no good against RDW and very aggressive decks.

JStangsWorld Liliana of the Veil, Smallpox and Pack Rat get around Leyline. You can also just discard everything to Pack Rat to make an army. It is a huge disadvantage, though, because half your deck doesn't work.

Usually the decks that play leyline set you back enough to get some major damage before you can resolve an ensnaring bridge
