Abzan Card Draw?
Modern forum

How has Abzan been drawing cards? I like to build decks that seem alright until you actually play them and then in the late game you end up top-decking the whole time. Is there better cards to play that have activated abilities? Or just flashback Lingering Souls? Or would something like Ajani, Mentor of Heroes or Garruk, Caller of Beasts actually be ok for card advantage?

Dark Confidant is great. lemmingllama's suggestions are also good.

I mean you don't need to worry about top decking because like every single one of your cards is a bomb. Abz an is a top deck king. Siege Rhino, Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Tarmogoyf all ends games, and the other cards are like liliana, souls, and removal. You should be pretty happy with all your draws. Also Stirring Wildwood and Treetop Village are great.

I agree Dark Confidant is the obvious solution, and 2X Abzan Charm can be great in lists where the other modes are relevant. I also think Garruk Relentless Flip/Garruk, the Veil-Cursed could give you some very good late game in a list that runs a few Lingering Souls, or a good number of Kitchen Finks or Voice of Resurgence. But in general, I think a major idea in Abzan is to accrue pseudo-card-advantage though token generation and resilient creatures or ETB effects, so extra draws aren't a priority.

Huh, good to know! My problem comes in when it's around turn 8 and I draw land the next couple turns. I guess Gavony Township fits in there as well as far as lands that do something go.

ChiefBell's absolutely right. The G/B/x variants just play value. Card for card, they have the most outright power out of any deck in the format. That's kind of the reason you play those decks. Even if you have no consistent way of receiving extra cards, if your opponent isn't either, chances are that you'll edge ahead sooner or later.

Some lists also run 1-ofs like Sigarda, Host of Herons or Thrun, the Last Troll, so they eventually get an unbeatable topdeck in longer games (like BGx mirror matches or control matches). But yeah, township is often a good enough late game edge.

You should be playing 60 individually good cards, so if it's card quality you want, there's nothing you need to do. If you want card quantity, there's obviously Bob, and possibly a fun-of Abzan Charm.

Phyrexian Arena will give you a steady stream of cards.
Sign in Blood and Night's Whisper let you dig deeper.
Abzan Charm is sometimes decent if you are only running one or two.
