I have been tinkering with my affinity build latley and have found that Springleaf Drum often just slows the deck down. i found myself running it less and less and i recently cut it compleatly. so to the affinity players out there am i crazy for cutting it?? im still at 20 mana sources and it still seem to function well perhaps better than before. so what do you think?

Do not cut it.

3 sounds like the correct number. There are quire a few ways to generate mana, and Springleaf Drum is required, but drawing into them is bad because they do nothing after the first one, except act as Arcbound Ravager food.

I'm not sure how exactly it could have been slowing the deck down. What were you putting instead?

i think with 3 in the deck, Springleaf Drum is very good since it can 1) add colored mana for plating and the colored spells in the main and sideboard 2) counts as an artifact for metalcraft and plating or just ravager counters 3) if casted on turn one, allows to have 3 mana turn 2 to either play and equip Cranial Plating or cast Etched Champion

Yes, I think it's crazy to cut it and I think a misunderstanding of why Affinity is good.
Affinity hasn't endured for all this time because it's consistently blazingly fast. Sometimes the deck has some nuts draws, but a bigger aspect to its success is its resilience and flexibility. A part of this is the decks ability to have basically any cards it needs for the current meta because of its ~12ish sources of any color of mana. Cutting a 1/3rd of those sources means you won't even reliably find colored mana until after Turn 7. Basically no Galvanic Blasts and you can kiss any chances of basically every having double black for Cranial Plating, and as mentioned you're severely limited on sideboarding.
If you want to play a fast aggro deck, play Wild Nacatl zoo.
