Alesha, Who Smiles at Death modern possibilities

I think she has a lot of possibilities in Modern reanimating great cards
Huntmaster of the Fells Flip and Vampire Nighthawk come to mind off the top of my head I mean there are a ton of 2 power staples in modern so I think she can possibly pop!
what other cards in the modern format has synergies with Alesha, Who Smiles at Death
I know most people write her off as not worth meddling with in the format but I think there is some serious fun possibilities here!
what do you peeps think?
goodair thats not a bad synergy just run Modern America which opens up the possibility of reusing Snapcaster Mage too

I think Huntmaster is one of the better cards to reanimate since you can get him back without casting spells and thus transform him. However, I'm wary of her speed. She costs 3 to play, 2 for her ability, plus however much it costs to get the creature into the graveyard (whether it be a self mill effect or just waiting for something to die). Best case is that she starts going turn 4, and by that point you could have done more with your mana. A 3/2 first strike for 3 is still decent, so it's worth a shot to toy around with.

Yeah I agree I know its more of a tabletop synergy deck but you never know gotta toy with things before you figure out synergies I do think she has a lot of potential in the Jund build!

I was thinking of "Big Zoo" that already runs Huntmaster and strong midrange cards. Jund is definitely another option. She has a notable synergy with Snapcaster Mage, but she lacks that interaction with the rest of the decks that run Snappy. I think Jund or Zoo shells will be your best bet.

Oh god!
She reanimates Knight of the Reliquary.......

Dark Confidant, Tarmogoyf (I think?), Scavenging Ooze, shes a house in modern junk...
January 31, 2015 1:58 a.m.
kiki-jiki would work because he would be attacking as soon as he comes out
January 31, 2015 2:40 a.m.
Well, I mean... Master of Cruelties could be interesting.

She might be ok with AEther Vial but she has to attack so I'm not sold. Y is she a red card????

She won't grab a goyf in a lot of cases. His P/T defining ability functions in the graveyard.

Golgari Grave-Troll and alesha could make a fun build.

So here is my take on a tabletop Modern deck Alesha, and the Grave-Trolls its not strict modern cause I am using Deathrite Shaman cause I have a playset so why not but yeah!

2 Things:
Does Knight of the Reliquary work alongside Alesha? If yes, that's kind of insane.
Put a Lightning Greaves on her and follow with Aven Riftwatcher against burn. Throw in a sac outlet if you feel inclined.
Probably too many cards to be useful, but she probably should be played with some sort of protection such as Whispersilk Cloak and Aven Riftwatcher is good against burn in any case. Finks is probably better but can't be recurred by Alesha.

P/T setting abilities work in all zones. (Tarmogoyf and Master of Etherium).
+1/+1 effects only function on the battlefield. (Knight of the Reliquary)

It would be hard making her work. You have to avoid Siege Rhinos and Tarmogoyfs and shit. I vote for making her indestructible somehow.

There is Basilisk Collar as well as Bow of Nylea, the second of which already can be SB against burn. Alesha already has first strike, and I can't think of any modern creature that sees a ton of play beating a first strike deathtouch in combat. Alesha laughs at Rhino and Goyf as far as I'm concerned. The card advantage she possesses behind the innocent looking ability is insane, alongside cards that really can break her.
I found Fulminator Mage the other day. I looked at Alesha then back to the Mage and laughed out loud. It's definitely good in theory, but I don't have enough experience to predict whether the 2 of them will be good in practice. What's your collective opinion on this?
Who knows about the future of Alesha? I personally think she's broken-in-half and sawed-in-three. I picked up 44 copies just today. Hopefully I can grab a hundred-plus before the "inevitable" price spike.
I guess Thalia, Guardian of Thraben trades, but the only deck that plays her is BG Hatebears as far as I know.

Fulminator Mage is a modern staple. And Thalia, Guardian of Thraben is used in GWb junk decks too now along with GW hatebears or GWb hatebears. Sometimes sees Zoo play. They are all pretty similar.
Basilisk Collar is certainly a good idea. I quite like it. Makes me thinking of running Naya first strike/double strike goodstuffs. Fulminator Mage, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Mirran Crusader, Voice of Resurgence, Scavenging Ooze.
Ohthenoises, you might want to try out that Basilisk Collar!
February 23, 2015 12:22 a.m.
Fulminator Mage is amazing synergy with Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, this is a great combo that I have played and it works quite well!
I don't know at current if she is consistent enough for Modern, but I definitely see her ability being more and more useful as time passes so just sit and wait! >:D I do like the idea of making her have deathtouch though! n.n

I think @Femme_Fatale has got it figured out tbh lol

Ohthenoises has already claimed the deck so I doesn't feel right for me to make it.
February 23, 2015 2:25 a.m.
That being the case Ohthenoises gets it lol, still good stuff tbh

You know, I want Iroas, God of Victory to be used in modern, though I know it will never be. Just the thought of the standard interaction between the two was so much fun to use.

I'm in no way the only person allowed to brew it lol but thanks Femme.
I was trying out GGT but without a discard outlet he gets stuck in hand too much. Replaced that with Basilisk Collar.
I need to work on the description and when I have I'll post the list here. Basically it's KotR zoo with Alesha as a reanimating safety net.

Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is wonderful with Anathemancer.
February 23, 2015 12:35 p.m.
Ive never even seen Anathemancer thats a way cool interaction and can be lethal against certain decks! I'm dropping two into my sideboard

I'm actually currently doing her for edh right now. Tiny Leaders is a no go because she's too slow, but Alesha, Who Smiles at Death seems to enjoy acting like a more hidden Kaalia of the Vast. That's how I'm building the deck. Dump her down as soon as possible and hope for an instant win against one threatening player, and then utilize locks and removal and utility to slog the game down till an infinite combo gets dropped.
February 23, 2015 5:26 p.m.
Ohthenoises says... #32
She's absolutely NUTTY in tiny leaders Femme... You use her as the saftey net after you play your Mirran Crusaders and what not.
February 23, 2015 5:35 p.m.
Prized Unicorn might be a too "casual" approach for Modern, but at least it's good in EDH and casual. Essentially makes all your guys unblockable for 2 mana a turn.
I wonder if there is any similar cards for Tiny Leaders. I don't play the format, but I'm somewhat interested in it. Alesha seems pretty good considering that half of everything will be 2/2.
February 23, 2015 8:24 p.m.
Oh yeah. I feel stupid.
Unless Alesha isn't commander. But then you need a 4 or 5 color commander and in that case Alesha probably isn't viable in your deck.
February 24, 2015 7:37 p.m.
I just picked up 2 of Alesha today and totally revamped my MODERN NAYA deck...
X4 WILD NACATL X4 LOAM LION X4 RANCOR X4 LIGHTNING BOLT X3 PATH TO EXILE X1 SOULFIRE GRAND MASTER X2 QASALI PRIDEMAGE X4 LIGHTNING HELIX X3 BOROS CHARM X2 KNIGHT OF THE RELIQUARY X2 ALESHA, WHO SMILES AT DEATH X2 LOXODON SMITER X2 AJANI VENGENT X2 HUNTMASTER OF THE FELLS AND 21 LANDS (8 are fetch lands)
I've found that ALESHA is really badass with RANCOR, and with brining back all of my creatures with the exception of LOXODON SMITER, which is really just a great three drop early game if the deck is playing super aggressively.
They were at a trade value of $1.50 so I had to take the chance and build something fun!

I got 12 Alesha's coming in in which I bought her at $12 a pop.
...
That sentence makes it sound like I bought her body 12 times for $1 each.
March 12, 2015 7:25 p.m.
I went bananas over Alesha and bought 64 copies.
Dang I hope she goes up... If not I'll just have spent $64 on a stack of cards that I'll ever only use 4 of. What do you guys think about her as a spec target though?
March 12, 2015 8:39 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #39
If people realize that she's an EDH badass and a definite Zoo playable, then yes, she will go up, but until then, she's at $1 each.
