any TRONNOISSEURS around?

Howdy :> I've been working on a mono-U tron list as of late. Anyone a pro with the deck? I'm curious about a couple things: Firstly are the talismans all that important? Second how viable is fabricate instead of treasure mage? I've been trying a fabricate list that doesn't even run the mage. It seems to me like its actually better! You can fetch EVERY THREAT! I know tron has trouble in the early game so an extra chump is nice but it seems like having the ability to fetch maps, ostones, batterskulls etc is quite a trade.

The Talismans are good since they give you an additional blue source, it allows you to cast some of your counterspells and bounces using only the Urzas lands.

As for Fabricate, it isn't ideal for Tron lists. Treasure Mage is better since he blocks and also brings Wurmcoil Engine to the party. If Fabricate was instant speed or it costed less than it would be better, but for the same cost it's often better to just get the 2/2 body.

I've seen some people running 2 fabricate 2 treasure mage- maybe that's where I should be.. I'd like to run and be able to fetch a batterskull

I personally run 4 treasure mage, 2 fabricate, and 3 talisman, though mine is a more aggressive version of the build. Your tutor suite really comes down to how grindy you want to be vs how aggressive you want to be.

I personally don't understand the want to include batterskull when you run wurmcoil engine which is just in all ways better, but if you're dead set on running it, I wold recommend 2 mage 2 fabricate.

What's your list look like at the moment? How aggressive or grindy do you want to be?

Fabricate is better only when you are also running Snapcaster Mage. Snappy has some serious flexibility in U Tron. Without Snappy, I'd be running Treasure Mage in a heartbeat.

I actually have 2 Tron lists, I Fight For the Users! is the non-budget version.

This is where I am currently- I like the idea of batterskull as a lower curve wurmcoil that has different benefits- coil is weak to path bskull isnt thats basically it. Toolboxtron maybe

Fabricate seems cool for other reasons too- you can run 1 of pithing needle chalice of the void engineered explosives etc in your SB and pull it at will

I prefer Red Green tron. I've played it on and off for over 2 years.

U or Uw is better (...imo, I guess...) because it's often just a powerful control deck that has a lot of mana. It has a much easier time without the Tron pieces than the RG version, which is huge, especially against Fulminator Mage (which I'm seeing a lot recently) and the like.
Uw also gets to run Gifts Ungiven for Unburial Rites and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Iona, Shield of Emeria, etc, but that's less relevant to this particular discussion.

U-Tron is my main deck in modern. I admit at first I figured I might want to cut the talismans for other goodies. I was wrong. The talismans do offer a blue source, unaffected both by land destruction, and Blood Moon, both of which will be sided in against you, if your opponent has them and has some sense. They also provide a black source, should you want to run Dismember in the sideboard, casting it with talismans instead of the phyrexian mana will cost you two life instead of four, which can certainly be the difference between life and death.

Another thing with the talismans, and this is the less obvious one, is that if you're running U-Tron, you're likely running a playset of Thirst for Knowledge. Fairly often you'll find yourself drawing three cards and wanting to keep both, or all three. In this circumstance you'll want to discard an artifact. once your manabase is stable, you're digging for wincons, or answers, with an assembled Tron, a blue source costing you a life is the last thing you want to be playing. Perfect discard material for thirst.

tl;dr: The talisman's are good fixing early game, good sideboard tech evasion for game 2 and 3, good digging tools for thirst mid to late game.

Where the Treasure Mage and Fabricate story is concerned, I feel the decision will largely be dependent upon your exact list, and mostly, your local meta. If you often find yourself needing to dig for artifacts under mana cost six, then you might want to drop a couple mages in favour of fabricate. The main use I see for it is digging for Oblivion Stone, or potential sideboard tech in game 2 or 3, such as Spellskite or Chalice of the Void. I don't run oblivion stone, I run Ugin instead, so I'm not using the fabricates. But that's not because it's not a viable option, it just doesn't fit my list as well. It's a tough call to make, contrarily to the talismans, the distribution of Treasure Mage and Fabricate is largely meta dependent.

Side note, Wurmcoil Engine really is just superior to batterskull in a Tron shell. I'd advise against running the skulls and just swap them out for wurmcoils.

Sorry for the rambly comment. Hope it helps.

I disagree. RG tron is historically better as it is more aggressive and better at defending against aggro decks. Plus it has the perfect match up against moderns biggest bully at the moment, Junk.

Zoo, I play a Mono U Tron Deck and I love playing it. If you hate people... Play this deck.. This version runs a full play set of Treasure Mage. I believe Treasure Mage is better in the deck that I run. I don't run Batterskull so that is taken care of, however I do run Oblivion Stone which I can't fetch for. I've decided, though, that the one Oblivion Stone works fine. I get it saves me sometimes but a lot of times i'm glad I don't have it because I have already taken control of the game. For fetching another map I find that there is really no point. If I am fetching for a map I would probably be in an irreparable situation where I die anyways. If you cast fabricate on turn 3, you then cant get the land until nxt turn and you can't leave up counter magic. Also, Tron is not as good against aggro, and thus it can help to have the chump block. Having 4 Talisman of Dominance is good because you can pitch them to Thirst for Knowledge. It also gets you ahead in mana in case you can't establish tron. Good Luck and remember, Play Better Game.IzzetFanatic Oh yeah up votes and comments are appreciated.
