Atarka's Command in Naya Zoo/Landfall deck

Modern forum

I fell like Atarka's Command is beyond perfect for a Naya Zoo/Landfall deck with the likes of Steppe Lynx and the usual suspects. It's a potential 9ish damage on turn 2, which is absolutely ridiculous.

Turn 1: Land, LynxTurn 2: Fetch - Landfall, Landfall. Attack with 4/5 Lynx. Instant Atarka's Command to drop a land at instant speed and deal 3 damage to the dome. 6 from the Lynx, 3 from the Command.

Discuss.

I agree that Atarka's Command while definitely see play Naya Zoo as well as other burn decks and maybe scapeshift

Better:

Turn 1 Steppe Lynx

Turn 2: Fetchland, Atarka's Command, drop a fetchland, crack and Lightning Bolt them. Your opponent will untap for their second turn at 6 life, assuming they haven't fetched or anything.

It seems incredibly good, possibly better than Boros Charm. If you're running Ghor-Clan Rampager, the Command is a strict replacement IMO.

Burn and Zoo. I'd say it's too low impact for Scapeshift.

The command isn't strictly better, the 4/4 trampler is incredibly relevant

I suppose. I don't know how I would build it TBH.

Boros charms...charm... for me is in the indestructibility clause. The other bits are tasty too.. 4 to the face or double strike is nothing to sneeze at but i like having a safety net. I'll be including atarkas command in my sideboard for use against lifegain strategies but the boros charm stays 2 of in the main.

Why not run both???

I am SO running this in my cascade deck.

3 modes on it that I would use every time I hit it on a cascade, It's at instant speed to so Violent Outburst into Atarka's Command has me REALLY excited.

Already Pre-ordered 4.

I'm more pumped for Narset. But this card gives me a reason to put my burn deck back together. Thanks, Wizards, you're bae again.

Atarka's Command will be sick in burn. Not only does it deal 3 damage that gets around Leyline of Sanctity, but it can prevent lifegain and put you one land ahead of your opponent (which also makes Shard Volley into a Lightning Bolt).

Can we all just give a round of applause to wizards for printing this card?

It's the best command we've seen so far.

Except for Cryptic and Austere, of course.

GlistenerAgent that list seems about right.

I might switch 3 and 4 but that looks about right.

Does nobody here play EDH? Austere Command is kick ass in Commander. That's how I ranked them.

Fair enough. This does happen to be the Modern forum. :)

Well you just said It was in general the best command, so naturally I had to make my case.

The problem with Austere imo is that it's ONLY EDH viable for the most part. Cryptic is Viable in Legacy, Modern, and EDH. Atarka's will be viable in everything upon its release. Oujutai's will be a budget Cryptic in eternal formats and very very viable in standard. Austere is a solid #5, maybe even competes with Primal for #4, but doesn't come close to touching the top 3 overall.

March 8, 2015 3:11 p.m.

Not Legacy for Cryptic Command, but otherwise you're correct.

vishnarg says... #24

True, but it's still a great overall spell. The only thing that comes close to the flexibility and effectiveness of a board wipe like Austere Command would be Merciless Eviction.

Anyways, this thread was about Atarka's Command. It's really not like any other command spell, it honestly just resembles a Skullcrack/Boros Charm mashup in green and red. It's different but the way it will be played will not be with the flexibility of other commands such as Cryptic, Austere, Primal, etc.

I used Steppe Lynx with Atarka against an Infect deck this FNM and attacked for 11 on turn 2 (fetch-Atarka-fetch). My opponent didn't believe it... I finished him off with Lynx (4/4) and Tribal flames on T3. Wish I could get that hand everytime!
