Athreos and Junk?

I'm considering turning my BUG deck into a Junk one. Do you guys think Athreos, God of Passage has what it takes to be competitive in modern? Would love to hear some pros and cons.

I think that he would need to be built around but has potential to be one of the most annoying cards in the game. Just think of him with Vexing Devil for a very simple but cruel combo that can do 7 damage easily. Overall, I think Dega has potential with him because red holds so many cards that could benefit from his ability due to the theme of "self sacrifice for damage."

'Unless opponent pays 3 life' is key. I could see lots of combo abuse. Blood Artist , Killing Wave , ETB effects, Ashnod's Altar ...

I was looking at him in a b/w human aggro deck. I don't know if you need to add G at all.

With green you get Abrupt Decay , Tarmogoyf , Scavenging Ooze ..... list goes on and on. Means that they would have to exile Goyf or take 3 to keep him in the yard. Who doesn't love a recurring Goyf

I made a deck in Dega colors and it looks good so far. I would be curious to see your Junk version with Athreos as that could have some crazy interactions.

Mine relies on creatures that cause an impact when they enter the battlefield or die. With Viscera Seer out, I can recycle creatures quickly and efficiently to give myself an advantage in both my library and the board.

Check it out if you want. I think it has potential to get better and influence the format.

I'm putting him in my Junk Pod deck. Although that's slightly different.

Jacques, for yours I would use creatures like Hell's Thunder and Spark Trooper , which kill themselves for you, opening room for more kill/burn spells. Vexing Devil is only really good early, before the opponent has a field which can deal with a 4/3, so the other two, and others like that, are really good anytime as they have evasion or trample to get the damage through. Really good idea with the deck though. And the Junk deck I have doesn't really abuse anything, just the recursion or damage option is fantastic to keep Goyfs and Bobs on the field, almost negating their removal. It's
