Best Delver Deck?

Modern forum

I've been testing a lot with Delver decks recently, and I've found that my favorite types are Temur, Grixis, Sultai Rock/Delver Hybrid, and URBG. Which one is the most viable with the current modern meta?

Grixis.

I second the recommendation!

Personally, I've never seen a Sultai delver deck in action, but I have a hard time believing it'd top a Grixis one. Delver midrange is weird.

Grixis Delver is pretty great, and it is also a lot cheaper than Temur Delver due to not needing Tarmogoyf. I'd go for that

Grixis Delver is far and away the best. Turn 2 Tasigur, the Golden Fang is legit.

Are there any penalties for playing green in Grixis for Abrupt Decay and Tarmogoyf?

Yes. It's pretty much worse.

@devotiontoblue The issue is that it increases the amount of pain your lands deal to you, or it slows down your gameplan. Basically it's adding in some good cards, but also making you automatically lose to decks like Burn.

Grixis Delver already almost kills itself getting all it's colors. And it already practically auto-loses the burn match up. Adding green makes the deck worse for a couple reasons. Grixis Delver already has it's own Goyf in Tasigur, the Golden Fang, and the only removal it needs it covered in Murderous Cut and Terminate. Green also makes the fragile mana base so much worse. You'd need to fetch for four colors all by turn three. That won't work out too well.

If you want to play Tarmogoyf and Abrupt Decay, you should probably just play Rock.
