Best Fae of Wishes Targets?

Modern forum

I'm looking for a list of what people would think are fun and exciting Fae of Wishes targets. This can be anything from Hidden Strings which uses the creature's evasion to its advantage, to something like Worship which makes you immortal provided you have a creature out. You can even have a convoluted suggestion like Summoner's Pact into Spring-Leaf Avenger to further utilize the card's evasion through ninjutsu.

I'm mainly looking for cards that don't typically see a lot of play, and am particularly interested in alternate win-cons like Approach of the Second Sun or Nexus of Fate. I'm also looking for build around suggestions. For example, I've recently found Power Conduit which can make any saga into something pretty broken, and has great relevance with persist/undying, or even being able to play through Chalice of the Void (yours or your opponents). It also makes things like Wall of Roots into pretty epic advantage generators.

There are no color or mana restrictions here, just looking for some novel ideas. Bonus points if it is something relevant in specific matches, like Worship is against RDW variants, and can actually be sided in, when Fae of Wishes is sided out.

How about Biorhythm?

Assault Formation!! haha

It's the only thing I've ever used it to wish for. And maybe an Ensnaring Bridge or Behind the Scenes once or twice out of the same deck, too.

I've considered it in some blue-based decks--Karn, the Great Creator is better, but fae can be the 5th+ slot.

I knew a guy who played a dice factory deck, and he ran a couple in there.

But if I were to jam it in a deck right now, and not just use it as a 5th-8th Glittering Wish or karn...

I feel like I'd want to play a combo deck,

But maybe something toolbox-ey, like Shark Typhoon and Wrath of God?

Glare of Subdual?

You brought up the built-in evasion, so maybe Vraska, Golgari Queen?

You'll likely want things you can play right away. Endurance and a lot of those pitch elementals are stupid good. Tormod's Crypt. Maybe some of the forces like Force of Nature moderns a little rough these days lol you cannot afford to Tutor something then not be able to immediately play it.

Great suggestions so far!

I really like Biorhythm as a sneaky wincon (going to keep it in mind in all future games I play, to see how often it would come up). Shark Typhoon is essentially a tutorable creature that you can sink mana into worst case, while also being a card you could build a deck around. Ensnaring Bridge is something I haven't considered surprisingly, but realistically the deck I run this in usually has too many cards in hand, so I couldn't use it as an out as easily as Worship could be used.

@wolfhead
It's really funny you mentioned Karn, the Great Creator and Glittering Wish because I transitioned from Glittering Wish to Fae of Wishes, and actually ran Karn, the Great Creator for a little bit too. In my deck, Mosswort Bridge doesn't care about CMC and lets me cast the adventure mode free, and Turntimber Symbiosis  Flip (it has upsides with Mosswort Bridge over other lands) feels much better hitting Fae of Wishes instead of Glittering Wish, so there's a fair bit of upside for this option over the other wishes.

@RNR_Gaming
Unfortunately, Fae of Wishes says noncreature, so 2/3 of those don't work. I'd also want something with more impact than Tormod's Crypt, like Rest in Peace, when you consider the opportunity cost of the wish. Free cards are good, don't get me wrong, but they need to be worth Fae of Wishes initial cost to even be considered. For example, Force of Vigor is a valid option.

The insteresting part of Fae of Wishes to me is actually the "discard two cards" part.

With that in mind, if you wanted to go REALLY crazy, I'd use it with Spellweaver Helix. The Fae lets you discard sorceries early, so you have easy targets for the helix. Then you sideboard singletons of all of your sorceries (so you never run more than 3 maindeck), and use her to wish for copies of the imprinted cards so you can trigger the helix easily.

For example: You start with Fae of Wishes, Spellweaver Helix, Cruel Ultimatum, and Raven's Crime. You play the Fae early, then bounce her by discarding the ultimatum and raven's crime, then you play Spellweaver Helix to imprint those two cards. Then you send her on an adventure and wish for Raven's Crime from your sideboard, which you use to also cast Cruel Ultimatum for free.

Throw in Strionic Resonator for even more shenanigans (you can copy both the imprint trigger, and the casting trigger on a Helix with it).

Nice idea. I could definitely see that being viable with "free" cantrips like Manamorphose and it also has great synergy with cards that can recur themselves through retrace, rebound, or cipher.

I really like the creativity there, thanks for bringing up an aspect of the card I didn't really think of utilizing. I'll have to look at ways to abuse the discard aspect of the card too now.

If only Punishing Fire got unbanned, I could see some value plays becoming possible with Grove of the Burnwillows. Right now, all I can think of are cards with cheaper unearth or flashback abilities, or something that benefits from specific cards hitting the graveyard like The Gitrog Monster, a reanimation package, or maybe even some wonky control shell with Haakon, Stromgald Scourge + Nameless Inversion.

Thanks for the interesting suggestion, I'll have to keep playing around with the idea.

I also thought of Haakon and reanimator in general (though I didn't think of Gitrog and that's a cool idea). The simple solution there is to keep some, or all, or your reanimator spells in sideboard so you always have access to them. I'm also a huge can of Bloodghast which would be pretty sick with Gitrog and Crucible of Worlds, or maybe Life from the Loam (or both).

Fae also affords you the unique ability to keep some toolbox reanimator targets in your sideboard like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobyte or Serra's Emissary, and still use them game 1.

The other thing you could do is throw in some Madness cards (I'm thinking Basking Rootwalla type stuff), as well as like, Dragon's Rage Channeler or other stuff with Delirium or Threshold.

Too bad "exiled" is no longer considered "outside the game", or Flashback would be insane with this card. Even just sideboarding a Past in Flames would be busted. Also the Evoke creatures with the free evoke costs (cuz you could reanimate them as well as remove a card and wish for it later). Alas.

I used to have a Decree of Silence + Power Conduit deck back in the day; it wasn't great but it was a lot of fun (for me).
