Best Green Creature in Modern
Modern forum
Posted on Oct. 13, 2015, 8:10 p.m. by Dorotheus
Theoretically, if there was a way to consistently turn 1 any Green creature in modern with an empty board, aside from Worldspine Wurm, which, in your opinion, would it be and why?
Also bonus points for any Blue creature, with cmc 5 or greater for the same reasons.
(I don't want to know how said creature is coming out so early or why, just which would be in your opinion the best).

I'd scoop if I was staring down a T1 Jin-Git in Modern...
I mean, I guess Progenitus too...

Just to be different, lets say Putrefax. Easy turn 1 kills assuming I just begin playing with it in play.

more creative than Progenitus (though not as good), Primeval Titan is a pretty solid turn one play. though something that doesn't die to Path to Exile is better. Gaea's Revenge isn't actually bad. Haste and can't be effected by spot removal. Elderscale Wurm is also kind of solid, though again gets hit by removal. Sigarda, Host of Herons is also okay. but yeah Progenitus is definitely the best.
for blue I can't outdo Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur. there's very little more threatening than that. IF I had to though i would say Inkwell Leviathan is really good as an alternative. Again, big turn-one guys the best you can do is something that avoids removal and is bigger than the format. Simic Sky Swallower is also good for the same reasons as inkwell.

but "best in modern" and "what you most want on turn one" are very different. The best green creature in modern is going to be dependent on the build, going between Wild Nacatl, Tarmogoyf, and Primeval Titan.
for blue there's arguments for Snapcaster Mage and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip both good and in contention. Pestermite/Deceiver Exarch are both good, but mostly just in combo shells. Vendilion Clique is also awesome in modern.

Charging Badger. You can't lose.
On a serious note, the best I could find (without any help from hand, etc.) was Autochthon Wurm.
I think Progenitus is taking the cake here.

@asasinater13, my requirements were more specific. If you could turn one ANY green creature and/or ANY blue creature cmc 5 and up.
I wasn't asking what were the best in the current meta.

On a serious note, let's not underestimate the power that is Borborygmos Enraged.
October 13, 2015 9:07 p.m.
If it was possible to turn one Bobo with 7 cards still in hand and all of them be lands, that's lethal. :)
Love me so Bobo Enraged.

Difficult to say in a vacuum. But assuming you had a Worldspine Wurm in hand, Myojin of Life's Web wins hands down. Just play all the best creatures.
October 13, 2015 9:20 p.m.
Its not the best by itself on turn one but I love Craterhoof Behemoth hes just my favorite card

@Dorotheus It is! You Goryo's Vengeance Griselbrand, draw a bunch of cards, Nourishing Shoal to keep drawing cards, and eventually Through the Breach in Borborygmos and discard lands to kill them. This can be done on turn 1. :)
Grishoalbrand. Google it.

Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. Any digging to find removal hurts, and a swing on T2 for 6 is gross.
October 13, 2015 9:33 p.m.
@GlistenerAgent, I know, click my name for my profile. I've been play what was traditionally known as Glass Cannon Vengeance. But I was a very, very early adopter of Borborygmos Enraged.
People called me crazy! :D

Desolation Twin seems strong. On the play, you basically win (unless they have a one drop or PtE. Even still, that only stops them from dying on turn 2, they still die next turn)

Unforgivn_II why that over Emrakul, the Aeons Torn?

Because 20 > 15. This doesn't seem to be a serious thread, so I figured why not. Obviously Emrakul is way better

Guys, colorless is obviously neither blue nor green... Obviously Eldrazi would be the best starting creatures, but let's actually answer Dorotheus's prompt and use green and blue creatures. :)

And no one has mentioned Novablast Wurm? You should all be ashamed..... T1 that, goodbye opponent's board states.
On a slightly more serious note a T1 Primeval Titan with 2 Amulet of Vigor in play fetching a Slayers' Stronghold+Boros Garrison then fetching Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion and a Vesuva is lethal.
There's actually a deck in modern that can do it. /gasp!!
(It required Simian Spirit Guide and a god hand but still.)

Well, I think that the best blue creature would be Jin-
ALL HAIL THE GREAT LORD EGOTIST.

I'm surprised it took 23 posts for someone to mention Storm Crow.
This site has gone down the drain.

Even with how I worded it, as precariously as I did to dodge it... I knew it would happen.
DrFunk27 has proved basic is well alive on this site.

Lol Dorotheus I'm sorry you have no humor. Perhaps you should laugh once in awhile? It is, after all, only a website for a game made of cardboard.
October 14, 2015 1:53 a.m.
Oh, I have plenty of a sense of humor... for things that are you know... humorous.
Cardboard where some go for over $100, and has a professional sport following has nothing to do with it (ie - Strawman argument).
It's just really basic shit at this point is all (Dies to Doomblade, Dies to removal, Storm Crow, Charging Badger, I'd tap that, but you can pitch it to Force of Will)
Check Mitch Headberg, Lewis Black, or Lord and Master George Carlin, for humor and/or comedy in the Shakespearean sense.

@DrFunk27 You jest. Fyndhorn Elves and Llanowar Elves are both much more powerful
October 14, 2015 10:35 a.m.
Some of my choices that haven't been mentioned (in no particular order):
Bringer of the Green Dawn / Giant Adephage / Living Hive / Verdant Force (value town tokens)
Protean Hulk (pretty sure you auto-win)
Sisters of Stone Death (value town)
Sylvan Primordial (play solitaire)
Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger (might even be a faster accelerator than Primeval Titan because of how far behind your opponent would get)
Bringer of the Blue Dawn (value town)
Tidespout Tyrant (I don't think you can lose)

Jokulmorder!! :D
And be the first person in modern to actually win with it.
October 14, 2015 3:18 p.m.
Can you imagine t1 Torpor Orb with t2 Jokulmorder?
Just the look on an opponent's face.

Progenitus.
Blue creature: Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur is my pick.
