Blightning Vs Browbeat

Blightning : Guaranteed three damage and your opponent discards 2, if they have any cards in hand. Requires red and black
Browbeat : 5 damage OR draw three cards...only requires red. The potential for it never to be what you want...but neither is really a bad option for 2R.
What do you guys think?

Why not both? R/B punishment is incredibly fun. However if you are going to play competitively and can only pick one, blighting is the better choice IMO.

Blightning. The mileage you get for 3 cmc is RIDICULOUS. RIDICULOUS.

I'm currently using Blightning and the discard is kind of the game plan, but it feels like the deck needs to hit harder and not run out of gas. It seems like an obvious answer, I'm kinda leaning towards running both...hmm...

Bloghtning is great as a 4 of- hitting your opponent with that any time in the game is fantastic. Browbeat is way better late game when your opponent can't afford to take 5. Better as a 3-of.

I guess my big issue with Blightning is that it's much less appealing when their hand is empty. But you're right it's not bad at that point, it's just less good.

I'm not sure why these cards are being compared against one another, given that they do very different things. I'm going to assume that it's wondering what's best for those last few slots in an RB deck. Though I guess if that was the case, my answer would be "neither".
I don't like cards like Browbeat because it gives your opponent a choice. Yes, it's a choice between two bad options (for him), but granting the opponent any control when you don't have to is just not a good idea. Consider that Browbeat , despite doing 5 damage, will never kill your opponent. He'll simply never choose to take 5 damage when it'll kill him.
In other words, you will never get 5 damage when the best outcome is 5 damage. You will never get 3 cards when the best outcome is 3 cards. It's a card that is always second best.
Not that Blightning is terribly good in general, when it might just be a 3-mana Lightning Bolt . It at least has a chance to wreck your opponent if you have one in hand at the right time.

I know they do different things, and fill a different niche. It's kind of a question of whether people see card draw/damage as being more valuable than discard and damage. 10vernothin, Darkness1835 and thedemonsday were all kind enough to give me there input, and I appreciate your thoughts just as much Barandis.
I know now, that my deck likes Blightning more. That being said, a singleton Browbeat would never be a bad draw because you know when you play it what would be best for you. As you have said, you play the card anticipating the opposite of what you "need" but like it has been said, neither is really a bad option for the mana cost. Worst comes to worse it gets countered and then they burnt a counter on "the second best option."
For reference, the deck I had in mind here was Robust Harvest.

Depend where you will use the deck. In multiplayer games Browbeat is a beast, no one will want to get those 5 damage..... Hmm politics..... In duels or THG you won't get the effect you want.
On the other hand, Blightning is always the effect you want.
It realy depend what deck you want and where you will use it. In mono red, draw effect are mostly non-existant making browbeat an awsome card. If you can affort to add a second color, you can get your draw from that color....

There's another thing to think about. I'm already running Bloodchief Ascension to get me hated out of the game in multiplayer...

depends... are you making a burn deck or a discard deck?
Blightning is for discard/burn and browbeat is kind THAT Izzet deck.
