Blue Urza Tron

Modern forum

I am wondering how well blue Urza tron does in modern, despite it not top eighting as often. Is it just because its less played, or sub-par?. Its reasonably cheap, and I enjoy playing it, which I find important. Basicly I want to know your opinion on it and how you well you find it dopes in your meta. G/r tron is an option, but I don't appreciate the price tag, and taking out expensive cards would hurt it because they are key to it.

It's a fine option, very strong against very slow decks and reasonable against Jund. I'd say that exactly right now it's a bad choice because Tron did well last week --> lots of hate, but if you play it in a wide-open and less metagamed field you can definitely catch people by surprise.

If you enjoy control and want a budget list, UTron is a good option. It isn't top-tier material, but can still do well at a FNM-level event.

Well another thing is that U-Tron does poorly against its brother XD

But yeah, Tron is always a pretty solid choice. Controlling + popping fatties down can never hurt. Economically, the Urza lands probably won't go down for a while, so it's a pretty safe investment. And it's actually budget (on modern standards, that is).

Blue is also cooler as a color base than red green. You con play mono blue tron, or uw gifts tron, or something else, and its pretty competitive too. Lots of decks scoop to Wurmcoil Engine, and even more scoop to karn and ugin (or elesh norn, if you want to go that route).

That's my view so far. I played storm for a while, I might still ,but I just remembered all the aggro players, 1 affinity (that might be playing delver now), 2 zoo, and although not aggro there is a splinter twin. I haven't been since pre-Treasure cruise banning. So I will likely go again just to have an excuse to play storm, and scope out the meta further.

Is G/r capable of budget, I am willing to spend/trade more if it's absolutely worth it. Not really interested in making G/r more budget friendly if it's going to be horrid. I just want something that plays well without fetches and that I won't have to sell guitars to buy.

pumpkinwavy can you please post a decklist? On my profile or here. I can get an ugin, karn is out of my reach though. I also have an elesh norn so that would be fine.

Uw gifts tron:

UW Gifts Tron is basically for the man who wants a bye through the first three turns of every game. That is, your opponent gets the bye. You're frequently super totally dead to any aggro deck except for the relatively infrequent times when you stabilize. It's worse than U Tron at stabilizing sometimes, but boasts the second-sickest endgame out there.

This deck is very different than other tron because it doesn't play the regular creature package and uses Unburial Rites instead. Slightly less explosive sometimes but still very powerful.I would try and fit an ugin in there somewhere.

I honestly don't know tron all that well, I just remember getting destroyed by this at a tournament. Game 1 ultimate ugin game 2 Unburial Rites Iona.

GlistenerAgent yeah its weak to aggro but every deck has its strengths and weaknesses. It has more game vs twin, and like all tron is great vs midrange.

UW Tron probably shouldn't have Ugin.

Ugin corrects to "autonomous". What the hell.

Thats not bad at all. I take it discards Unburial Rites and Iona through Thirst for Knowledge?

Mostly through Gifts Ungiven for two cards.

It's okay but if you want to be competitive Red Green Tron is undoubtedly the best option.

UWb Tron Gifts (yes selfish deck plug) plays more like a control list instead of a combo deck, when rg tron or mono blue tron hit pure hate like in the extreme case of death and taxes it can just buckle while wu is more of a deck that isn't purely focused on getting an urza industry running (in fact I've actually been thinking about a version with token makers like Lingering Souls and running a couple Polymorph to cheat out the big creatures through graveyard hate meta) and can play a control game and let the urza lands let the player run away with the lead the control gives it.

I am going to watch video playthroughs of people playing G/r tron, U/w tron, and U tron. ALso ask around more. I am leaning more towards blue tron, although that could change.
