Boros or Mardu Burn?

Modern forum

With the top 8 of the latest pro tour in I'm quickly finding out that boros is the dominant burn deck. Currently my deck is running mardu for Bump in the Night and then Rakdos Charm and Rain of Gore in the sideboard. Is boros just the way to go? The pros seem to think that way.

2 colors are easier to manage than 3. Boros is strictly better.

Thanks, DrFunk27!

I think what I might do is keep my sideboard mardu since most of the burn decks are naya and I really like my sideboard over the naya sideboard.

The scary thing about Mardu burn is that you take a lot of damage from all of your fetchlands and shocklands. You can easily die to Eidolon of the Great Revel if you aren't careful. It also means that you could be mana screwed, which is devastating to a fast deck like burn.

lemmingllama, yeah, I ran across that a lot. It was like whenever I dealt 3 to my opponent, I also did 3 to myself so all they needed to do was attack me.

Im running boros righ now, but I am interested in splashing black for Crackling Doom in the SB and maybe Bump in the Night main. Im just not sure if the mana can support it. I might have to go up to 12-13 fetchlands to try it out.

Jojja: I would say you typically want 12-13 fetches anyways. I run 12 and love it, and the burn decks that placed in the top 8 at this last pro tour were running 13. After moving my deck from mardu to boros, I have found it does run a lot more smoothly and like it better. With that said, I kept my sideboard mardu since I like what black offers there. On a side note, I really don't think Crackling Doom belongs in modern burn.

Yeah, I know. I only have 8 red fetches right now but I have ordered another 4 to get me up there. Crackling Doom was a thought I had to help against some decks like the bloodtitan deck or reanimating/gift's with Iona. It would be 2 in the SB at the most, but I like the idea.

I'll probably try it out and dismiss it due to the strain on the mana. But it might work so I feel the need to at least try it. :)
