Brave beatdown / Mono White Devotion. Viable deck?

Modern forum

Before rotation I really enjoyed playing brave beatdown. In short: 20-30 weenies, 4x Brave the Elements, go for the face. Is this a viable strategy in the modern meta, or will it be crushed against most decks?

Cars isn't standard anymore but mono white devo works. Try Hundred-Handed One with Godsend

The problem with non-standard weenie decks is that they run out of power rather quickly without some way to either gain more cards ot protect your creatures reliably.

Sure, you could run 4 braves, but I don't think that that would be enough to reliably win games. Think Mother of Runes in legacy death and taxes, then look for something in modern that will give a similar effect, and I think you'll see some fair results.

The particular strategy you have in mind probably will be too weak in power level to compete, but you should certainly consider G/W or Mono-W Hatebears. It plays lots of small guys, but those guys have disruptive elements that allow you to put more pressure on opponents to establish themselves while also making it hard to do so.

Tribal Soldiers isn't a good deck, but it's fun, and can do what you want it to.

GW Hatebears is probably the way to go. Mono W Hatebears is not that good, because it has none of the D&T cards that legacy has to make it powerful.

@JexInfinite Meet recent Hatebears decks. Mono white gets to play Tectonic Edge (at least, more of it) and has space for more metagaming where the green decks plays some creatures that a certain pilot could find very cuttable.

That is to say, there are metagames where GW is better (where the green creatures actually do something), and there are those where white is the better choice (more controlling decks, Scapeshift, decks where Qasali Pridemage, Gaddock Teeg and Scavenging Ooze aren't helpful).

Mono-color is preferred so I don't have to invest $$$ in lands. Any good 1-2-3-drops that might be good in Mono-W aggro? Suggestions for supportive spells (like do x + card draw) also appreciated.

Tribal Knights has seen some fringe modern play. To be perfectly honest, any deck that leaves up 1 white for Path to Exile while beating down seems to work well enough to have a chance at a modern FNM. I've taken 1st with my Knight deck as well as my GW beatdown deck just by playing smart, although I don't feel like a white wheenie deck will ever take down a large tournament due to white's inability to draw cards/manipulate the deck as much as other colors. So to answer your thread post, if you add the stipulation of having 4 Paths along with your 4 Braves, then you might have a chance at a modern FNM.

GeminiSpartanX Decks like Soul Sisters can win larger tournaments, like PTQs and do pretty decent on day 2 of a GP.

In legacy, one of the best decks, possibly better than UR Delver, is white weenies. The strategy is not to be underestimated.

Not quite the correct versions, but close. Martyr Proc is the better Modern version than Soul Sisters, the difference being more inevitability with Proclamation of Rebirth and Emeria, The Sky Ruin. UR Delver is probably the best deck in Modern, Legacy, and Vintage with Treasure Cruise's printing, but Death & Taxes is the Legacy WW deck that utilizes Mother of Runes, Rishadan Port, Stoneforge Mystic, and Jotun Grunt (a metagame call against Delve spells). In addition to beating down, D&T also controls what your opponent can do.

OpenFire Martyr Proc is a different deck to Soul Sisters, and while you gain ridiculous amounts of life, I don't think it's the better deck. The matchups which Soul Sisters struggles against are even worse for Martyr Proc, and the matchups that Martyr Proc is good in, Soul Sisters is faster.

There is some inevitability with Martyr Proc, if you can stay alive that long. Martyr Proc was successful at the GP because nobody was expecting it, and instead expecting the faster deck, Soul Sisters. It's the same deal with Treefolk winning a daily. Random decks occasionally have their deserved victories.

UR Delver is definitely not the best deck in modern. Pod seems to continue to hold that title.
