Budget Modern Deck?

Modern forum

Hey guys,

So i've only been playing standard so far since i started about a year ago. I'm interested in making a modern deck just to play around with. Any recommendations on a decent modern deck i could make for around $50? It doesn't have to be anything special. I just want to do something other than standard for once.

My advice is up your cap about 100 dollars and u could build a decent tier 1.5 modern deck.

Tribal Deck: Elementals pretty quick. if you want it to be $50 bucks, just take out the cavern of souls but being a standard player, you should have some, right?

A New Hope works pretty good for me. to make it a bit more budget, switch the Wrath of God s for Day of Judgment s, switch to normal basics over Hallowed Fountain and Marsh Flats . the Archangel of Thune can really be just about anything. the spot is really open to preference.

My Nomads of a Fallen Land (Landfall) deck is very cheap if you take out some of the crazier lands.

I also have a primer for the deck, which talks in further detail about the deck and its variants.

Mono-white Soul Sisters is a relatively cheap deck that is fairly competitive. You can see a deck list here.

Try out a simple Goblin tribal deck! I have the recipe posted on my profile! The thing comes out quick and hurts quite a bit! I love it and it's cheap!

With all due respect...four out of the last eight responded-to threads in the Modern forums as of the time of this post are about what works for budget decks. I certainly don't have anything against them (I've been engaged in a lot of those discussions), but wouldn't it be easier to just take a gander a couple inches down the page?

Mono-Blue Tron, Soul Sisters, yada yada.

Ill never recommend any budget list in an external format. Now I'm not saying that there isn't decent ones out there. But i personally will never recommend one

If you can go up to a hundred dollars you can run a Quest for the Holy Relic deck. I won with mine at my lgs a few weeks back. Like you I'm relatively new to the format.

I think the term you are looking for is ETERNAL formats, not external. Also, take note that modern is NOT an eternal format. There are only 2 eternal formats, vintage and legacy. Eternal meaning "encompassing all cards from all sets ever printed", minus the ban list.

Eternal means any non-rotating format, Modern is an eternal format.

ConBurnMadMan I think everyone got what I meant. But thanks for your on going input and help to the site.

Normally I wouldn't say anything, but it's the second time you called it external, and the second time (even if using the correct term) that you would be misleading new modern players. Just correcting bad information, since that's what this site is for.

But you are right ConBurnMadMan. It isn't a external or eternal format. It is simply a constructed format that consists of all Magic sets printed since the introduction of the modern card frame, starting with Eighth Edition and the Mirrodin block. Card sets do not rotate out of Modern. I apologize if I sounded harsh. I just can't stand the fact that people just make components to correct people on grammar or a simple error.

I meant no malice, just something that bugs me when people call it an eternal format. Sorry if it came off rude.

ally tribal can be pretty cheap, and functions like the ever hated sliver, just weakened a little and a lot cheaper we stand as one is a good start

If you're just wanting to branch out into other formats, and don't want to spend a lot of money, why not try Pauper instead? You could build a couple of solid decks for $50.
