What cards are good to use in place of Goyf, Bob, Liliana, and others?
In BG/x? You can't really build it to the same extent without those.
Goyf can just become a large beater of your choice, but none will be even close to his level. You could opt for Courser of Kruphix for lifegain and some card advantage.
Bob can become Phyrexian Arena, Night's Whisper, or Sign in Blood. However, again none of those are anywhere near as good.
There is no replacement for Liliana. Geth's Verdict or more removal is an option but it doesn't have her fantastic discard effect.
Basically - it's really hard to build a budget rock deck by taking out the expensive cards and trying to find replacements that do the same thing. HOWEVER, it IS possible to build a budget rock deck from the ground up, if you just completely ignore the standard choices and make your own version. I once ran a version with Essence Warden and Creakwood Liege. It was super fun.

Well now let's be open here. What if I wanted to play Temur, or I wanted to play 8 rack. It's not uncommon to see those cards in a Gx deck or a Bx or any variation

It depends on the deck. I would recommend to just build a deck that doesn't need those staples, rather than a deck that needs them and doesn't have them. It might be a janky deck, but it will likely work better than just running a subpar deck.

LOL just because I listed B/G cards doesnt mean I'm playing golgari, I'm just asking in general

BUG doesn't exist much in modern. BGR is super expensive. BGW is super expensive.
You don't want to splash colours in 8rack, and you don't want 8rack cards in a non 8rack deck. They don't work well together.
Temur is RUG and therefore has absolutely NOTHING to do with Liliana of a lot of the other cards you inititally asked about.

Like, your question is totally confusing and bizarre.
Are you saying -
I want to play BG/x and want to replace these cards
OR
I want to play either B or G and want to replace some of these cards

I think he just wants to know cards that can fill the roles. Like how Phyrexian Arena has a similar role to Dark Confidant, it isn't as good but its more budget and servers a similar role.

Well regardless, I've already answered the question.

ChiefBell that's ok, after some searching, I got the answeres I needed, like Quirion Dryad, Leatherback Baloth, Dungrove Elder, Sheltering Ancient the question isn't confusing, and it taught me just how much of a one track mind Modern players have.
I never mentioned splashing in 8 rack, now did I? Everyone just...ASSUMES and it's cute

"What if I wanted to play Temur, or I wanted to play 8 rack. It's not uncommon to see those cards in a Gx deck or a Bx or any variation"
So that doesn't insinuate that you're thinking about splashing 8rack cards in a Gx or Bx build...... huh. You have an interesting grasp on language, given that that's literally what you wrote. My response was that it IS uncommon to see those cards in variations.
Besides, I already gave you a list of possibilities anyway.

@benelas16 I'm sorry for assuming things. However, if you are actually trying to play Temur or something else, you're probably better off saying that than asking a possibly misleading question in the future.
Insulting people instead of considering that you may have made a mistake is not how one should go about things.

I am going to be honest with you and tell you right now that we are really shitty mind readers here. Now it is up to you to see the folly with your original post and realize why people responded the way they did.
November 29, 2014 11:10 a.m.
For reference about how to use language:
If you ask "What cards are good to use in place of Goyf, Bob, Liliana, and others?", then people are going to think that you want to run a deck with replacements for Goyf, Bob, Liliana, and others - because this is what you actually asked. Like, you literally just wrote that. Therefore people are going to think you're playing BG/x because you asked to replace BG/x cards. It's not difficult........
Normal people don't put unnecessary information into questions. So if I wanted to know of some good black cards to replace Liliana, I would ask "Which cards are good replacements for Liliana?". I would NOT ask "Which cards are good replacements for Liliana and Tarmogoyf?". Do you understand how stupid that is? Therefore if somebody asks a question including a list of cards they want other options for, we think that they're thinking of using all of those cards they listed; not just some.
If you want a list of potential cards but you don't actually know whether you'll be using all of them then you need to specifically make that clear by asking: "I'm thinking about splashing G or B; what are some good replacements for X, Y, Z etc". You need to make it clear that you're asking for some information that you may not even use. However, if you don't then people will assume that your question presents a situation where you're utilising a deck that replaces ALL of the cards in question, because most of the time those asking questions don't ask for irrelevant advice.
The English language. Basic.

basically if you can't afford modern, then don't play modern. thats where I'm at.

A different deck. There's exactly no purpose in playing BGx if you're going to replace all the cards that make it good.
