BUG control/midrange has now seen a 1st place scg open and a 1st place scg premier IQ with very similar lists. Yet the list has seen little performance in the meta outside of these tournaments.

What are your guy's and gal's opinion on the deck? Is it viable but not seeing play, or is it decent and getting lucky?

BUG is and has been super viable for years at this point. The list that won is super metad out though with those two copies of Ashiok and a Thragtusk in the main.
The other thing that's awkward about control is that a lot of players will pick it up and say, "hey, I can play this," but its validity as a deck scales with the skill level of the person actually piloting it.

Nothing wrong with the deck, I think the most common problem is that the deck will cost you your soul when you try to collect it.
I mean, fucking Tarmogoyf, Liliana of the Veil, Cryptic Command, Vendilion Clique.

BUG control has plenty of great options and is a fantastic deck to play. People tend to get stuck in trends and playing the meta in this day and age though and can be less inclined to branch out from that.

What Misanthropia said. It's not cheap.
I have everything but the Goyfs (because I'm a cheap bastard who refuses to drop that kinda cash on anything less than duals). It works but would be much better with Goyf. Feed the Clan is awesome, I'm not personally a fan of Ashiok, Damnation is amazing, when Abrupt Decay works it's one of those things that makes me grin. Etc etc etc.
I like killing stuff and throwing out creatures that smack people in the face. BUG does that and makes me happy

I actually just finished the deck, I play Junk so I had most of the stuff. I agree damnation is awesome.
Ashiok is a total meta call, i think a tech edge and Quicken are potentially good in its place. Fabiano said he is trying Quicken in the main, it seems potentially good.

Quicken is pretty nice. At worst it cycles, then the instant speed board wipe sounds lovely (haven't done it myself in Modern).
I personally like Remand over Mana Leak, but I see that as more of a preference thing.

BUG Control has a slight disadvantage to other control decks, because the removal doesn't double up as a way to win (UWR can burn out the opponent) , so you need really efficient win cons, like Goyfs, or Batterskull.

Would Jace Beleren be better than Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver in the current meta? I run party jace in my turbo fog deck as a draw source/win con, id like to see him played more.

Twanicus Most likely not. Ashiok provides a lot of value against Abzan.

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is certainly better in BUG Control than Jace Beleren. Ashiok attacks their resources, and works great against any creature deck (Zoo, Little Kid Abzan). Jace just draws cards, nothing else.

I'm not sure if Ashiok or Jace are good mainboard slots. Ashiok is awesome, but he is a total meta call and dead to some decks.

Yeah, and the decks that Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver doesnt perform well against (Storm, Scapeshift, Tron-kinda, Burn-kinda) Sultai has other MB answers to. Not to mention fact or fiction jace. Guess i was just trying to find more homes for a card that seems too powerful to be played as little as it is.

I personally feel that the deck is viable, but it is a deck that requires a good pilot. It's a relatively difficult deck to get behind, but that doesn't make it any less viable. I think it may begin to see a rise in play, but right now it isn't tier one, there are simply better options, though I may attempt to build it for the sake of playing it.
