Choosing a deck for PTQ Season!

Modern forum

Hey everyone!

The time has come for me to pick one deck and stick with it for the modern PTQ season and GP Boston. I have several choices which are:

So these are my options. I want to discuss both their competitiveness in the meta but also just fun reasons to play them. I love all of these decks but if I practice with one consistently, I will be better off in PTQ's.

Thanks everyone!

I'm running something that's inbetween u/w/r midrange-flash and u/w/r control. So my votes on this. UB fae is not that competitive, while you may love it, It's better at FNM and casual fun times.

The rest of the decks are stronger and better suited for the meta.

The 'fun reasons' to play them, have to come from you. That's because what's fun for you might not be fun for others to play. I personally have always loved snap/resto and control shenanigans, this is why I went the route I choose. (My version runs 2 restos, 2 cliques and 4 snaps, at the expense of electrolyze and on advice, running 4 spell snares over remand, but I'm not sure if I like the deck without remand), and also running 2 angers mainboard.

All of those are competitive (except maybe Faeries), but after the last Pro Tour, people will be sideboarding strongly against Control and Splinter Twin . I reckon the more midrange-y one is probably your best bet in terms of the surprise factor that goes with it, and it looks the most fun to play. Quick question though: why don't you run Delver of Secrets  Flip ? In a midrange build such as that, he would be one of the best beaters you could run.

delver isn't the hero that u/w/r midrange deserves. It's moving that deck into something else.

Hey thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think Fae is out for consideration. Splinter Twin is definitely interesting. But UWR can switch between control and midrange so easily, which is quite nice.

I'd go with UWR Midrange :)
