I want to play competitively in modern, I have an esper tron de k that runs Gifts Ungiven refer to my profile for the list, is this viable to play at a pptq or a tournament? I know the mets game is flooded with goyf and twin so I'm very concerned this will be blown away any help would be appreciated.

It looks like a fun deck to play, and you could succeed at a pptq or tournament. However, I doubt that you would be able to top 8 in either event. I'll post some of my thoughts in your list itself, but currently your deck folds to Twin and Burn, but with a good Abzan matchup.

I'm sorry, are you saying that Gifts Ungiven is a crappy card?

@IndepenentMeta Actually it's essentially an instant speed tutor for Unburial Rites and whatever creature you want to put into play. Gifts decks are devastating when they get to do their thing, and it was even restricted in Vintage for a while due to the power of it.

Eh it's at least an instant now at days. I can actually remember it was a sorcery when it first came out. ;$

Cards do not and cannot change card types once they have been released.

It was probably a sorcery when he originally designed it, but when Wizards stole his idea they changed it to an instant.

kmcree, I try. I really do. But his ignorance draws me like the gravitational pull of a small planet. Please answer the following question truthfully, IndepenentMeta. Are you intentionally being a troll? If not, are you aware that you have developed a reputation for being one?

The only card change I remember is the change to how lifelink worked on something I think in 10th edition...
o.O <--- Is what I say to you.!

Well guys this has been really helpful, but in all seriousness is there anything I can do?

I don't think that esper tron is the way to go I'm afraid. If you want to keep playing Gifts Ungiven would mind switching to a control deck that uses that as its win condition?

Unfortunately, as it has been stated Krinn Esper Tron is currently in a poor position. However, if you're interested in competitive Magic in Modern I could have a few suggestions for you depending on your play style.

I have no experience woth Gifts tron, I know its an archetype but it doesn't put up good results.
I can't think of any users that specialise on the deck, Only one that comes to mind is Ohthenoises.
If you want to cast Gifts then I would recommend a UW Shell and then an Esper shell, This archetype is slovakattacks pride and joy so ill leave it up to him.

Gifts tron ain't my thing, U tron is my area and only in so far as to build the deck and maintain it for my wife.

It doesn't seem super competitive. It's probably better to pick Gifts, or RG Tron, and play one of them.
