Consume the Meek in Modern?

Modern forum

So I've been looking at this card recently, and I was wondering if it's actually viable in Modern. Obviously it's a little more expensive than is preferable, but the Instant-Speed... It can be grabbed with Mystical Teachings , ruin a Kiki or Twin combo, or just ruin an overreaching aggro deck.

The restriction isn't even that bad. Hits Goyf, Bob, Deathrite, Snap, Kiki, Melira, Finks, and just about every other main threat in Modern.

Is the extra mana enough to make it simply not runnable? Let me know what you guys think (Specifically, it would probably go into my Esper Gifts deck, A Gift Best Served Cold).

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker cmc is 5! So no Consume the Meek doesn't hit kiki.

Oops I was thinking he was cmc 3 >.< but still, very few things evade it

And don't think it's better then Damnation for one less with no restriction.

It's the Instant Speed (and the price tag lol) that appeal to me

It would still get rid of the Pestermite or Deceiver Exarch tokens mid-combat, which still has its applications. Although, I'd rather just stop the combo outright for 2 mana than delay it for a turn.

And Dispel still gets there for them. Price wise though probably best bet

At best, Consume the Meek is good SB material against some of the aggro-y decks in the format. But if you're running black Damnation is a surer choice.

Paul Cheon actually wrote about a deck this week that uses the card in a Mystical Teachings setting. Of course its prime attraction is Cruel Ultimatum , and I hope it works because that would be a lot of fun. (It also runs Damnation in the sideboard.)
