Deathrite Shaman Banned

Modern forum

I am not a modern player, but seeing this i just had to make a post about it. I'm sure many players are rejoicing while others are shouting curses to the heavens. Where do you stand on the matter? How do you feel about the banning of Deathrite Shaman and do you think it deserved a ban?

@apple01doj

That is one of the huge reasons DRS was banned, cards are not suppose to be the only realistic answer too themselves. Don't get me wrong, scavenging ooze is amazing, but DRS is turn ONE, so the damage it can cause is immediate. On top of that, DRS is a hybrid, so it's easily splashable.

It's this same reason that contributed to banning mental mistep(contributed).

DRS damage isn't immediate. In fact by himself a T1 DRS played off a basic or shock is literally useless. The card itself is not overpowered, it only becomes overpowered threw the environment.

DRS and ScOoze aren't the only answers for DRS either. Just about every removal spell short of Doom Blade kills him and there is tons of grave hate from Tormod's Crypt to Bojuka Bog to non-anti grave hate answers like Phyrexian Revoker

Based on the Pro Tour results, it really diversified the meta game and gave modern way more flavor and variety. It was a great idea to ban it and an even better idea to unban Nacatl and Bitterblossom. There I said it.

Apple, you really don't seem to understand how oppressive DRS really is. To be honest, you probably never will, because he will never be unbanned.

U say that but I think ur speaking to the wrong person. I ran person DRS in both standard and modern when it was legal. It's 1 of my favorite cards, u can't tell me something I don't know about it. I've played it and played against lots.

Have you played without it? That's the important question here.

As vishnarg said, the ban/unban has widely diversified the Modern format. This is evidenced by the fact that Storm Top 8'd the Pro Tour, as well as the fact that among the Top 8, there were no less than 17 Snapcaster Mage in 5 different archetypes that would have considered playing the card. Living End went 5-0 in Modern on Day 1. Banning Deathrite Shaman allows a plethora of strategies to take hold in Modern, instead of 30+% of all decks being Jund like Pro Tour RTR and the runner-up being 9.4% Affinity.

Does that mean it is banned in standard? I just played this in my deck like 6 weeks ago.

jaeastep No. All formats have separate ban lists. Something that's banned in Modern isn't necessarily banned in Standard. In fact, very rarely are things banned in Standard; the Standard ban list is empty most of the time, as it is now.

Funnily enough, DRS is powerful enough to be banned in Modern, but very rarely sees play in Standard as it is significantly weaker in the environment.

TitansFTW thanks for that I was a little worried I wasn't going to be able to play it in upcoming tournaments.

@Ohthenoises

Necrophilia has never been my thing, man. But if I tag gnarlicide it is possible that we'll get a hilarious story.

@PrecintSix6Six

Jesus Christ. I'm tired of these necro threads, especially this one there hasn't even been a banning recently...

fluffybunnypants I'm flattered, but definitely expected the phrase "So, in order to avoid the gay sex orgy of Deathrite scrotums..." to make it there first

I figured Deathrite Shaman would have exiled this thread from target players forum by now.

But while we're on the subject, I hope he comes back one day. I miss Shaman... he's still way too strong in the modern metagame but maybe one day. A man can dream...

Wow, after some thought and deliberation, I got nothing...

At least nothing that would pertain to the necrobump.

A couple friends of mine said I fucked a couch once at a party. No pics, though. So it must not have happened. But my wife heard about it, so it must be true.

October 23, 2014 11:31 a.m.

I saw this and I was curious as to why a thread like this had popped up, seeing as Deathrite's been banned for a good what, 7-8 months now.

And then my day was made. Thank you, PrecintSix6Six.
