Deflecting Palm

Would it be viable to mainboard 2-4 Deflecting Palm in Boros Burn? My meta is heavy with tron, grixis delver, and infect.

The last two on that list make Deflecting Palm a bad idea in my opinion unless you're playing against the tier one buff spell version of infect. It would also matter the flavor of tron you see most.

Maybe as a one-of? It's too situational.

Sideboard it if anything.

It's pretty narrow. I don'think it's necessary at all.

i dont know, i doesnt help against infect since it requires damage, maybe sideboard or as a 1-of

Infect damage is still damage.

But because the effect is a prevention effect that causes Deflecting Palm to then deal damage as a source, the return damage won't have infect.

I love Deflecting Palm. Use it on Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle & it's gg against scapeshift. Use it against amulet bloom. Oh your attacking with a 6/6 double strike? I'll Deflecting Palm it and do 12 to you. Ignore affinity's creatures and hit them in the face with burn spells. They attack with a fatty and redirect it back to them.

Little kid abzan, abzan, jund, kiki-twin, etc are all average decks or worse for Deflecting Palm. Twin is just horrible for it.

Honestly if you are worried about infect just add more sweepers. Pyroclasm is your best fried. So is Gut Shot.

addaff Deflecting Palm doesn't work that way. Please don't use it like that in a match. The key point of wording is "the next time a source of your choice". It's only the one time against a single source of damage, not every instance of damage that turn.

So against a 6/6 doublestrike Primeval Titan it would only redirect the either the first strike or normal damage. Against Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle only a single trigger of 3 damage. Or Twin it only stops 1 of the million Deceiver Exarchs.

@addaff: Deflecting Palm is pretty bad against Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle. You only prevent the damage from one instance of the ability, not from all instances.

Similarly, it only prevents damage from one "half" of double strike.

I lost to Deflecting Palm one time with Scapeshift. I was at 2.

Things deflecting palm is good against:

RG Tron - Emrakul

Affinity - Cranial Plating

Ad Nauseam - Lightning storm or whatever it is they use

Burn mirror - Boros Charm

Infect - If they don't play around it

Boggles - If they have a dude suited up to the tits without lifelink

And that's about it. If you see a lot of these decks, then go for the palm, otherwise, I wouldn't.

I like Deflecting Palm as a 2 of in the sideboard in Naya Burn. It can also help against Amulet Bloom when they go for the Primeval Titan and Kessig Wolf Run beatdown.

I use it as a one-of in Boros Burn. I can't see it being better in any other capacity.
