Deprive?

Modern forum

I stumbled across this card the other day, So my question to you is Deprive modern playable? I mean, Seems to me like it's a better option than Negate in alot of decks.

I mean, bouncing Gemstone Mine or any other utility land like it could be a great play and an easy hard counter.

I guess the cost could be a tiny strain?

Thoughts?

It was good in Delver decks and Ascendancy decks, because you didn't need the extra lands in Delver and could even loot them away in Ascendancy.

Delver is really the only deck that can play it, because in control decks you need your lands.

It's pretty crap. Can be used in decks that run extremely efficient spells but meh.

chief nailed ot on the head. deprive is crap most of the time.its bad in tempo decks, and control wants to make land drops and stay ahead. what deck are you trying to fit it in?

I'm not trying to fit it in anywhere really, I was just curious as to where the card stood in the meta.

There's just no need to run it in any deck. And if you did need to run a counterspell, Remand and Mana Leak are just better.

The reason for playing it was that Delver decks wanted a hard counter against Scapeshift. Mana Leak and Remand are inherently fairly bad against a deck that makes a lot of mana, so having a hard counterspell was worth bouncing an extra land to your hand.
